Prepare to be amazed by sweet and savory Shrimp and Pineapple Pizza! It makes a great party appetizer, lunch, or a fun option for pizza night!
This cheesy, gooey, mouthwatering Shrimp and Pineapple Pizza will change your idea of what pizza can be! This “white pizza” (no tomato sauce) uses olive oil and Monterey Jack cheese as the “sauce” on a prepared crust, then tops it with shrimp, pineapple, chopped red onion, and parmesan. This pizza is SO SO good!
You Don’t Know Until You Try!
You may THINK you don’t like pineapple on pizza – but this recipe will prove you wrong! This is not your run-of-the-mill Domino’s hot pineapple pizza – this is savory and delicious, healthy and nutritious, and easy to make!
Now, I’m with you in not loving pineapple on a pizza with a classic marinara base. The two just don’t go together in my book. But with a light olive oil base paired with fresh, savory shrimp? OH MY. There is nothing else like it!
Other Recipes to Serve with Pineapple Pizza
- Easy Bread Maker Pizza Dough is exactly what the name implies—an easy recipe for making homemade pizza crust!
- Cucumber and Onion Salad is an unbeatable sidekick for shrimp pizza! Light and cool, healthy and flavorful, this salad is a winner!
Ingredients
Pizza Crust: We use a pre-made Boboli brand thin crust for simplicity. Any bought or homemade pizza crust, including a gluten-free crust, will work!
Pizza Sauce: Instead of the traditional tomato sauce, this pizza uses a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of Monterey Jack cheese. YUM!
Toppings: To top this fresh, flavorful pizza, you’ll need some chopped red onion, a quarter-cup of drained pineapple tidbits, grated parmesan cheese and 25 shrimp (cooked, deveined, tail-off).
Garnish: A little chopped cilantro makes a bright, attractive, and tasty garnish for this finished pizza!
How to Make Shrimp and Pineapple Pizza
STEP ONE: Preheat your oven to 500 degrees F and place the pizza crust on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Then brush olive oil over the top of the pizza crust and sprinkle it with the Monterey Jack cheese.
STEP TWO: Add the shrimp, pineapple, red onion, and parmesan cheese, spreading the toppings evenly.
STEP THREE: Bake for 8-10 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Remove the pizza from the oven.
STEP FOUR: Garnish the pizza with a sprinkling of chopped cilantro. Cut into slices and serve warm with your favorite sides! You’re going to love this!
Tips for Success
- With a gluten-free crust, this entire pie is gluten-friendly!
- Try a little finely chopped jalapeno or poblano pepper to give this savory, sweet pizza a little heat!
- For the best pizza result, use precooked, salad-sized, or small, tail-off shrimp that have been thawed and patted dry.
- Using a pre-made crust helps get this pizza on the dinner table ASAP. You can also use your favorite homemade or store-bought pizza dough. If you’re using raw pizza dough, spread it out on the baking sheet and top with olive oil. Bake for 6-8 minutes until par-baked. Take the crust out of the oven, add the rest of the toppings as directed, and continue to bake until the pizza is done.
Does Pineapple Really Belong on Pizza?
Of course, it does! It may not be traditional Italian cuisine, but neither is parmesan or chicken! Pizza can be whatever you want it to be! From a Greek pizza with feta, spinach, and olives to BBQ Chicken pizza, Taco pizza, Hamburger pizza, and more, pizza crusts are great foundations for family-friendly meals!
Can You Put Raw Shrimp on Pizza?
The definitive answer is: Maybe? For most of us who cook pizza at home, using cooked shrimp is the right answer. Raw shrimp has a lot of moisture, so using it can produce a mushy pizza. Bleh. So, ideally, buy cooked shrimp or pan-sear the raw, thawed shrimp before adding it to the uncooked pizza. However, if the pizza is made in a wood-fired oven, simply butterfly-cut the raw shrimp and toss it right on! The high temperature in the WFO cooks the shrimp quickly and evaporates any moisture, so there’s no risk of a mushy pizza.
