About Aubrey
Hey guys! I’m excited to get to know you! I’m Aubrey and I live in Portland, Oregon with my husband and our two little guys. Well, I guess they’re not that little anymore! How did that happen?
When I’m not in the kitchen I’m sipping tea watching all the British television I can find or out hiking in the woods.
Growing up I would watch cooking shows with my Mom and Grandmother. I remember being home from school sick when the Food Network launched and watching with my Grandmother as they explained the entire channel would be cooking shows!
Food has always been an important part of my family and I love to cook. As I grew up and started my own family I loved experimenting in the kitchen to create dishes my friends and family would love.
The Blog
I started Real Housemoms in 2012 while still living in Arizona. A lot of my early recipes were very influenced by the flavors of the southwest, like Bacon-Wrapped Jalapeno Poppers and Margaritas.
In 2013 we moved to Oregon and I fell in love with Portland! I live in one of the best food cities in the country and that has had a major influence on my recipes now. I’m surrounded by incredible restaurants, amazing food trucks, and the best farmer’s markets out there.
As my kids have grown I’ve been able to travel more to cities all over the world! One of my favorite things to do when exploring a new city is to take a cooking class from a local chef. I’ve learned to make homemade pasta in Verona from one of the top pasta makers in Italy and been taught the key to the best gumbo you’ve ever tasted from a local chef in New Orleans.
You can learn a lot about a city, it’s people and it’s history from a cooking class. Now I get to bring all that back to share with all of you! I recreate the same recipes here at home using ingredients that are easy to find even back home.
From the beginning, I’ve shared the recipes that have been handed down from my family or recipes I’ve made for my family and friends for years. I make sure my recipes are simple and have ingredients that you can find in your local grocery store. My recipes are tested and retested to make sure I’m sharing the best I can with you all.

My Mission
It’s my mission to teach anyone interested in cooking just how simple it is. I want everyone to know the joy of creating something for their friends and family that they’ll love! I want to get people together in the kitchen and around the dinner table making memories as well as great food!
