Tips for Success
- Frozen corn is picked at the peak of its ripeness and flash-frozen, so it retains its wonderful freshness. Using frozen corn in this recipe is a time saver and deliciously flavorful!
- Low-fat options are fine for this slow cooker creamed corn recipe. Avoid using fat-free cream cheese, as it lacks flavor.
- If your creamed corn seems too thick, stir in a little milk until it reaches the desired consistency. If it’s too thin, cook the corn with the lid off briefly until it thickens.
- Leftovers can be stored in a sealed container in the fridge for up to four days and reheated in the microwave or on the stovetop over medium heat.
Can I use canned corn in this recipe?
If your pantry is already well stocked with canned corn, running to the store for frozen corn is unnecessary! When using canned corn, you will need to drain it before adding it to the slow cooker. This recipe uses 2 pounds of frozen corn so that you will need an equivalent amount of canned corn. There are 16 ounces in a pound, so pick up two cans of corn. Fresh corn cut from a cob can also be used; you will need the same amount.
What’s the difference between cream corn and creamed corn?
There is no difference between dishes labeled cream corn and creamed corn. There are, however, slight differences between ingredients used in recipes for creamed corn. Classic cream corn is corn kernels simmered in butter with a small amount of milk. Other creamed corn recipes may include cream cheese, American cheese, parmesan, or no cheese. Canned creamed corn doesn’t contain any dairy products. Some recipes include pureeing the creamed corn a little to achieve a soupy creaminess. However you enjoy it, this Southern and Midwestern favorite is a dish that you can personalize and love!

This may seem like a really silly question, however I am from New Zealand and I have no idea what half and half is, could you please explain. This looks really delicious and am keen to try.
Thank you

Half and half is hald milk & half cream. It’s basically lighter than a whipping cream and heavier than milk. I would use 3/4 milk to 1/4 cream to get the right consistency. 🙂
