My New Year’s resolution this year was to try and cut some carbs out of my diet. Well, here we are, a quarter of the way through the year (that went FAST…) and I’m still sticking to it – might be the first time ever!
One way that I was able to eliminate some carbs out of my daily routine was to look for recipes and foods that are “keto-friendly.” By focusing on high-(good)-fat foods and high protein foods, my body is able to burn fat rather than carbs which keeps me satisfied for longer!
Cutting carbs during my main meals has been easier than expected. I’ve been replacing pizza crust with cauliflower crust, skipping the bread, and sticking to my family’s favorite low carb recipes.
However, finding options to satisfy my massive SWEET TOOTH has been trickier.
No ice cream? Brownies? Or the worst possible thing (for me at least…) NO CAKES?! It sounds nearly impossible for me.

What is a Keto Mug Cake?
Mug cakes have become very popular in the last few years. They’re great because you can have a yummy dessert in minutes and not have to worry about having tons of leftovers lying around your house! The problem with typical mug cakes is they are loaded with sugar (don’t get me wrong, I totally indulge in them sometimes, we all deserve it).
Duncan Hines has totally solved that problem with their new Keto-Friendly mug cakes. With zero grams of added sugar (yes… I repeat ZERO grams of added sugar), I can feel good about popping one of these treats in the microwave when I’ve got a craving to satisfy!
Not only is there zero added sugar, but Duncan Hines mug cakes also have only 5 grams of net carbs! A typical mug cake that you make at home can have anywhere from 20-35 grams of carbohydrates (definitely not good for those of us cutting carbs or trying to stay keto-friendly).
How to make Keto-Friendly Mug Cakes
Ever want a dessert that takes little to no prep work, and absolutely ZERO mess? I know I am a sucker for sneaking a sweet treat after my kids go to bed, but the evidence is totally there the next morning by the empty ice cream container or half-eaten batch of brownies left on the counter. Not a problem anymore!
My favorite part about the new Duncan Hines Keto-Friendly Mug Cakes is that they are low prep with no mess (aka evidence) for me to clean up after.
They’re as simple as:
- Peel back the lid.
- Stir 2 tablespoons of water into the dry ingredients. (You can also substitute in coconut oil or avocado oil to up your healthy fats.)
- Pop in the microwave for 1 minute.
That’s it! In less than a minute and a half of cooking time, you can have a delicious dessert that helps you stay on track with your low-carb lifestyle. Bonus: there’s zero clean up, besides your spoon!
If you want to make your dessert extra fancy, sprinkle the top of your chocolate mug cake with a little powdered Erythritol sweetener and a raspberry or two. YUM!

I am a self-proclaimed “chocoholic,” so anything with any bit of chocolate in it is for me.
