Ingredients
Liqueur: For these shots, you will need green crème de menthe, white crème de cacao, and Irish cream. You can choose whichever brand of Irish cream you like – stick with the original flavor.
Garnish: To top the shots, you will need whipped cream and an Andes int for each shot. If you can’t find Andes mints, whipped cream is fine, or you can top the shots with some mini chocolate chips.
How to Make Luck of the Irish Shots
STEP ONE: Pour the crème de menthe into a tall shot glass and then pour in the crème de cacao.
STEP TWO: Carefully pour the Irish cream over the back of a spoon so it floats on top of the green layer.
STEP THREE: Garnish the shots with a dollop of whipped cream and an Andes mint, if desired. Enjoy immediately with friends!
Tips for Success
- Chill the bottles of liqueur ahead of time for the best-tasting shots.
- Spray whipped cream will be the easiest for these shots, but you can use tub whipped cream or even homemade whipped cream if that is your preference.
- Don’t stir the drink once you’ve poured the liqueurs. The layered effect is part of the fun of the shot!
What’s the best technique for creating layers in a shot?
Pouring a layered shot takes a little focus, but it’s easily done, even if you’re not a professional bartender! The simplest way to pour a perfect layer is to use the back of a small spoon. To start, flip a spoon over and stick just the tip of the spoon into the layer of liqueur in the shot glass. Slowly pour the next layer over the back of the spoon. Repeat this with the next layer of liqueur, and you will have a beautiful layered shot!
How much of each liqueur should I use if my shot glasses are different?
Shot glasses come in a range of sizes, some short and wide, others tall and thin. Sometimes, you must make do with other kinds of glasses because you don’t have shot glasses! In these cases, you can eyeball the amounts of each liqueur. Three liqueurs are used in this recipe, so fill the glass 1/3 of the way with each liqueur, top it with whipped cream and candy, and continue with the party!
