Pomegranate: To add to this punch, pick up a pomegranate and remove the seeds, known as arils. You may be able to find pomegranate arils in the produce section of your grocery store. This is a great way to save time instead of removing them from a pomegranate yourself.

Liquor: For this punch, you will need vodka and prosecco. Please pick up your favorite brands and chill them before making a pitcher of this drink. If a sweeter taste, you can use Asti instead of Prosecco.

Mix-Ins: Purchase 100% pure pomegranate juice (you’ll usually find it in the produce section at the store) and chill it ahead of time. Bring more bubbles to the party with Ginger Ale! Add a little sweetness to balance this punch with simple syrup. You can find simple syrup in the liquor department or easily make your own at home!

Tips for Success

  • Chill the ingredients beforehand to keep the punch cool throughout the party.
  • Pick up an extra pomegranate or extra pomegranate arils, add them to ice cube trays, fill them with a little water, and freeze them to make beautiful ice cubes for this punch!
  • Wait to add the Prosecco and Ginger Ale until just before serving to prevent the punch from going flat. If you enjoy leftover punch the next day, add sparking water to return the bubbles!
  • Make your own simple syrup by simmering equal water and granulated sugar over medium heat for 10 minutes. Once the syrup is clear and the sugar fully dissolves, allow the mixture to cool in the pot. Pour the cooled syrup into a jar and refrigerate it for up to a week.

How do you get the seeds out of a pomegranate?

Peeling a pomegranate can be a little intimidating if you’ve never done it or a little daunting if you’ve done it before and it took forever to get all those little seeds out!

The simplest way to peel a pomegranate is to first slice the top off straight across the stem. This will allow you to see the sections of the white membrane holding all of the seeds in place. With your knife, follow the lines of the white membrane and cut along the outside of the peel, from top to bottom, to create sections.

Turn the pomegranate over and smack the bottom of the fruit with a wooden spoon to knock the seeds loose. Do this over a water bowl to catch the seeds and separate them from the membrane more easily. Once all the seeds have been knocked into the bowl, strain them and dry them before storing or using them in your favorite recipes.

Is pomegranate good for cocktails?

Pomegranate is a wonderful juice to mix with various spirits, thanks to its sweet-tart flavor. Margaritas, martinis, and Moscow mules are just a few of the delicious ways that showcase pomegranate’s versatility and depth of flavor. Some pomegranate-flavored vodkas and liqueurs can enhance many of your favorite cocktails. Bottled pomegranate juice is pretty easy to find, but when it’s in season, it can be fun to make fresh pomegranate juice to enjoy both in beverages and meals!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups pomegranate juice chilled
  • 1 cup vodka chilled
  • ½ cup pomegranate arils
  • ¼ cup simple syrup
  • 750 mL prosecco (or asti) chilled
  • 12 ounces ginger ale chilled
  • Ice

Instructions

  • Pour the pomegranate juice, vodka, pomegranate arils, and simple syrup into a large pitcher. Stir well to combine.
  • Just before serving, add the prosecco and ginger ale. Stir gently to combine. You can add ice to the pitcher or to the serving glasses before pouring the punch.

Notes

If you’re using asti instead of prosecco you may not need as much simple syrup as asti is sweeter than prosecco. Start by using 1 tablespoon of simple syrup. Then, when you add the sparkling wine, adjust the sweetness of the punch by adding more simple syrup if desired.
