Busy mornings tend to get the best of me. I always have good intentions to sit down and eat a healthy breakfast but time tends to slip through my hands. Between packing lunches, making sure kids have their correct uniform on for school and getting other people ready to go for the day, the last person who tends to get to eat is me. I have a feeling I’m not alone in this quest to feed myself in the morning, am I right? If you’re feelin’ my struggle, then I have something that will help us all out and get us a quick breakfast to help fuel our day. This awesome Mocha Protein Shake has everything you need (coffee included!) to get your day off to a great start.

The trick to getting everything you need into a great protein shake is having your ingredients ready when you are. I personally love freezing cold brew coffee in ice trays. I often throw 4 to 5 cubes of cold brew coffee ice cubes into my shake – it’s also what gives this mocha shake its fantastic coffee flavor. You can purchase cold brew coffee in the grocery store, and better yet, you can also make it yourself. See my link below the recipe for my easy three step tutorial for making your own cold brew at home.
For this simple mocha protein shake, I include my coffee ice cubes along with chocolate milk, Greek yogurt, and chocolate protein powder. There are many, many protein powders on the market – I recommend choosing a powder that best fits your nutritional needs. I was personally looking for a powder that was low in refined sugar, and plant-based. If you’re not quite sure what protein powder is for you, I recommend grabbing a few single-serving packets and trying a few different types. This will ensure you’re not stuck with a $30 jar of protein powder that you hate.
Blending up this easy protein shake is as simple as it sounds. Add the coffee ice cubes to your blender, and top with the milk, yogurt and protein powder. Blend until completely smooth, and enjoy right away. This protein shake is the perfect way to enjoy a quick breakfast on the way out the door, and also makes for a nice post-workout recovery shake, too.
If you’re not a coffee fan but would like some other chocolate protein shake add-in’s, remove the coffee ice cubes and…
- Add coconut flakes + almond milk = Chocolate Almond Joy Shake
- Add peanut butter powder = Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Shake
- Add fresh cherries = Chocolate Covered Cherry Shake
- Add frozen banana + Peanut butter powder = Chunky Monkey Shake
As you can see, with a good chocolate protein powder, the possibilities are endless!
