Breakfast is obviously the most important meal of the day! Like most people, I love any excuse to eat my favorite breakfast foods at all hours. This crescent roll appetizer ring is the perfect combination of hearty breakfast meets savory snacking.
The presentation will also score you some major kudos from guests and family. You will not believe how simple it actually is to create something that looks this good!
CREAM CHEESE AND SAUSAGE CRESCENT ROLL RING INGREDIENTS
Here is what you will need to make your own delicious crescent rolls appetizer ring:
Breakfast Sausage – A 16 -ounce roll of breakfast sausage is enough to stuff the crescent roll ring. I like to use Jimmy Dean Regular pork breakfast sausage, but you are welcome to use whatever sausage you prefer – even spicy! If you do not eat pork, you can also easily substitute turkey sausage for this recipe.
You could use ground beef for this recipe, I won’t stop you. However, you’ll need to add your own seasonings like onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and more. The breakfast sausage comes preseasoned and it’s awesome!
Refrigerated Crescent rolls – You will need two cans of your favorite refrigerated crescent rolls to make this crescent roll ring recipe. I use good old-fashioned Pillsbury Crescents because I love how buttery and flakey they are.
Cream Cheese- Regular cream cheese is always my go-to. Reduced-fat options tend to lose the creamy, full texture that makes cream cheese recipes so irresistible.
Filling – A sautéed blend of red and green bell peppers and onions gives this appetizer the perfect blend of flavors. It also adds balance to the richness of the sausage and cream cheese.
HOW TO MAKE A CRESCENT ROLL RING
Making a crescent ring roll is not actually as intimidating as you may think.
- First, start by preheating your oven to 375 degrees F. While it is heating, you can start working on assembling the crescent roll ring. On a large baking sheet, arrange your crescent triangles into a sun shape circle with the points facing outward and overlapping a little. For a more detailed overview on how to lay your dough out, skip to the next section!
- Next, grab a large skillet and brown the breakfast sausage until it is fully cooked, leaving no pink. Sautée the chopped red and green bell peppers and onions together and add them to the cooked breakfast sausage.
- Remove the sausage mixture from the pan and place it into a large bowl and allow to cool a little.
- Once your meat has cooled a bit, add in the cheddar cheese and stir to combine.
- Once the filling is finished, place scoops of the sausage filling on the inner circle of the dough. Be careful not to place filling past the gaps between the dough triangles.
- Next, fold the points over the sausage and tuck the points into the middle of the circle so the filling is enclosed.
- Once all of the crescent rolls have been tucked under, place the crescent ring in the oven for 15 minutes. You’ll know it is done when the dough is golden brown.
HOW TO MAKE A RING OUT OF CRESCENT ROLLS
Before you start laying out the crescent roll ring, make sure that the crescent roll dough is still cold! Do not take the canisters out early and let them sit out on the counter while you prep the other ingredients. Once the dough warms up, it becomes sticky and harder to work with. The colder the dough, the easier to build your ring.
- Start by getting out a large cookie sheet or baking sheet, the larger the better! Line the sheet with parchment paper.
- When you are ready to start assembling the ring, pop open the can of dough and separate it out into triangles. There should be 8 crescent dough triangles total. (If you don’t want any filling to show, you can use 2 cans of dough separated into 16 triangles.)
- Arrange the dough triangles in a ring onto the baking sheet into the shape of a sun. You want the smallest angled points facing out, like sun rays, and the short side of the triangles facing in, creating an inner circle about 5 inches across. The dough triangles will overlap on the inner circle. You can use a small bowl with a 5-inch diameter to lay in the middle of the “sun” as a guide for creating the inner circle.
- Once the crescent ring roll is assembled, you will scoop your filling onto the inner circle of dough and wrap your sun-rays around the filling. Essentially turning the sun you built into a sausage-filled wreath.

TOOLS USED TO MAKE STUFFED CRESCENT ROLL RING RECIPES
Large Baking Sheet: When it comes to making a crescent roll ring, the larger the sheet the better!
Parchment Paper: Your baked goods will never stick again! I love using parchment paper for everything from cookies to pizzas!
Ingredients
- 16 ounces breakfast sausage
- ½ cup red bell pepper seeded and diced
- ½ cup green bell pepper seeded and diced
- 1 large sweet onion peeled and diced
- 8 ounce cream cheese softened
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 ounces refrigerated crescent roll dough (1 tube)
- 4 slices provolone cheese cut in half
- 1 egg
- Fresh parsley chopped, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat and set aside.
- Place a large skillet over medium heat. Add sausage and cook until no longer pink and slightly seared. Break up the meat as it cooks. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the sausage to a mixing bowl.
- Drain all but 1 tablespoon of the grease from the skillet. Place the skillet back over medium heat add the bell pepper and onion to the pan. Season with salt and pepper and cook for 5 to 8 minutes until the onions have softened, stirring occasionally.
- Pour the onions and peppers into the bowl with the sausage. Add in the cream cheese and mix until everything is evenly combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Grab your prepared baking sheet and lay out the crescent rolls in a starburst pattern.
- Place the sausage filling in a ring around the wide side of the crescent rolls., Top the filling with half slices of cheese until covered.
- Take a point of one crescent roll triangle, fold it over the filling, and tuck it under the center of the ring. Continue around until all the dough is folded over and tucked in place around the filling.
- Place egg in a small bowl and beat. Use a pastry brush to brush the egg over the crescent dough. (This will help it brown and get shiny.)
- Bake the ring for 12 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the crescent rolls are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and garnish with chopped parsley and extra bell peppers. Cut into 9 slices and serve warm.
