Ingredients
Liqueurs: Green crème de menthe adds a minty flavor, green color, and a little alcohol to this martini. White crème de cacao adds chocolate flavor, but you can also substitute chocolate-flavored vodka or white Godiva liqueur. We’re adding a creamy factor and depth of flavor to this chocolate mint martini with some Baileys Irish cream.
Garnish: To give this martini a holiday vibe, grab some heavy cream and red sanding sugar. You’ll use these to coat the rim of the martini glass.
How to Make Chocolate Mint Martinis
STEP ONE: Pour the heavy cream onto a small, shallow plate. Pour the sanding sugar onto another small plate and spread it into an even layer. Dip the rim of the martini glass first into the heavy cream and then into the sanding sugar until it’s coated.
STEP TWO: Add the crème de menthe, Baileys Irish cream, and crème de cacao to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds or until it’s well chilled.
STEP THREE: Strain the cocktail into your festive sugar-rimmed martini glass and drink up!
Tips for Success
- If you’re looking for a pairing appetizer, berries and brie work well with mint chocolate.
- No green-colored Creme de Menthe? That’s okay. Grab the white Creme de Menthe instead and add 1-2 drops of green food coloring to your cocktail shaker. I start with one and check the color after shaking. You can always add more food coloring.
- The festive green color also makes this an ideal cocktail recipe for St. Patrick’s Day! You can leave the sugar rim off or use green sanding sugar instead.
How Do I Add Sugar to the Rim of my Cocktail Glasses?
Making a Cocktail Sugar Rimmer could not be easier! You will need two salad plates. On the first, add an egg white or two (enough to cover the bottom of the plate). On the second, add about 1/4 inch of finely granulated sugar. Dip a glass, upside down, into the egg white, then immediately into the sugar, giving the glass a little twist. Voila!
If you want colored sugar like the Mistletoe Mint Martini (and don’t want to buy sanding sugar), simply add food coloring to some sugar. Place 1/4 cup of sugar in a food processor or a plastic baggie. Start by adding just 2 drops of food coloring and blending it into the sugar. Then, you can add 1-2 drops of coloring at a time before blending until you get the perfect color!
What’s in a Traditional Martini?
A classic martini is a simple, sophisticated drink made of 1 part vermouth and three parts gin. It is served very cold and garnished with everything from pearl onions to green olives to a twist of lemon.
There are dozens of variations on a martini, the most common being a “wet” martini, which uses equal parts of gin and vermouth; a “dirty martini” with a splash of olive juice; and the James Bond “shaken not stirred” martini, which is blended in a cocktail shaker with ice before straining it into your glass, leaving tiny slivers of ice.

- 1 ½ ounces Baileys Irish cream
- ½ ounce white crème de cacao
- ½ cup ice
Garnish
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons red sanding sugar or more

- Place the martini glass upside down in the cream to coat the rim. Then, dip the rim into the sanding sugar. (You can use a spoon to help get the sugar onto the entire edge of the glass.)
