Tart Hawaiian Stone Sour cocktails will make you dream of a tropical vacation! Make your mouth happy with some whiskey and pineapple juice!
I love a fruity cocktail no matter the season. My typical weekend drink of choice is a classic lemon drop or this Hawaiian Stone Sour. I take a tropical twist on the classic whiskey sour cocktail with pineapple juice for the perfect summer drink!

Whiskey is one of the most popular liquors, and my husband loves it. I love the smokey, rich flavor of this whiskey sour cocktail with homemade sour mix. The added pineapple juice truly takes this drink to the next level.
Canned pineapple juice would work perfectly well. In fact, I highly recommend just buying juice. You can juice a fresh pineapple, but it’s a lot of work for a similar end result — trust me, I learned the hard way.
Ingredients
WHISKEY: You can’t have whiskey sours without whiskey! Use your favorite brand for the perfect Hawaiian stone sour.
FRUIT JUICE: I change up the juices with this tropical sour cocktail! A mixture of pineapple juice and lemon juice gives that sour cocktail taste with a tropical twist.
I add a little simple syrup to make mine extra sweet. You can always skip this step and keep it more sour.
How to Make Hawaiian Stone Sour
- Shake the pineapple juice, whiskey, lemon juice, and simple syrup together in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Then, strain it into a rocks glass with ice and serve! It’s that simple.
I like to garnish my whiskey sour cocktails with pineapple, cherries, or paper umbrellas!
What Makes a Sour Cocktail?
I need my cocktails with a little mixer, too. Sour cocktails are a favorite because they’re not too strong and not too sweet.
Simply put, a sour cocktail is anything with liquor, lemon or lime juice, and a sweetener. Some even add egg whites for a thicker drink.
I swap the lime juice for pineapple juice for a more tropical sour cocktail. And I use the simple syrup for a little sweetness.
What Is the Best Sour Mix?
You can always buy a store-bought mix for a sour cocktail, but it’s always so much better homemade. No weird aftertastes, no extra sugars, and no unknown ingredients and colorings!
I love this homemade sour mix recipe because it’s just four ingredients: lemon juice, lime juice, sugar, and water. That’s it! I think fresh juice is better than store-bought lemon or lime juice because it has that super bright flavor.
Best Sour Cocktails
I’m not a straight whiskey fan. My husband can drink it straight — along with just about any other type of booze. There is something, however, about a classic whiskey sour that I just love.
If it’s made properly, there’s just the right amount of sweet versus tart and they perfectly complement the take-your-breath-away intensity of the whiskey.
Whiskey is a St. Patrick’s Day drink staple. I love this lucky whiskey sour because it’s got a great green color, too!
If you’re a frozen drink fan, this apple whiskey sour is for you! It’s got all the flavors you love with spiced apple cider for the best fall drink ever.

Tools used to make Hawaiian Stone Sour
Old-fashioned glasses: I keep it simple with a short old fashioned glass. You can use tiki glasses for a fun and festive poolside cocktail, too!
Cocktail shaker: If you’re going to be a home bartender, you definitely need a shaker! It blends mixers and liquors so much better than simple stirring.

Good solid cocktail but is def too sweet. I made as is so I could honestly eval. Will remember this but will tweek next time. Maybe some homemade sweet/sour mix instead of lemon juice and SS.

Awesome cocktail. I used 1:1 honey water for simple syrup and a tad bit more bourbon. The shaking made for a beautifuly frothy drink that was refreshing for summer time.

If you’re like me and found this a bit sweeter than you’d like, drop the simple to a 1/2oz and up the whiskey (I recommend a bourbon) to 2oz. But even as written, its a solid cocktail.

Wow! This is amazing! Went to search for a cocktail that used lemon juice and pineapple juice and this is perfect! I can barely taste the alcohol!
Used Jim Beam 4-yr, homemade Smugglers cove Rich simple syrup (already had this to make Mai tai), and it was a tad too sweet for me but I will adjust next time to taste. Had a Luxardo cherry on the bottom (which definitely added more sweetness but that’s before I tasted it ha).
