Ingredients
Bananas: You will need a few frozen bananas to make this treat. Slice them before you freeze them for easier blending.
Peanut Butter: This ice cream will also use your favorite smooth peanut butter.
Cocoa: Pick up cocoa powder to add a chocolaty richness to your ice cream.
How to Make Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Ice Cream
STEP ONE: Place the frozen sliced bananas in the food processor or blender and blend until they are small chunks.
STEP TWO: Add the cocoa powder and peanut butter to the bananas and puree until smooth.
STEP THREE: Serve the ice cream immediately or scoop the ice cream into an airtight container and freeze.
Tips for Success
- The bananas must be frozen ahead of time to make this ice cream. Slicing them before freezing is easier for your food processor or blender to puree. Place the banana pieces in a ziplock bag and store them in the freezer for future use or place the slices on a wax paper-lined baking sheet and freeze for 2-3 hours before using the same day. Slicing and storing all those browned bananas on your counter is perfect for treats like this!
- To make a single serving of this ice cream, mix one frozen banana with one tablespoon each of the cocoa powder and peanut butter. Blend this in your food processor until smooth.
- Don’t forget the toppings! Sprinkle on chopped nuts, maraschino cherries, sprinkles, or your favorites!
Why do frozen bananas taste like ice cream?
Bananas are the perfect fruit to make an ice cream alternative, known as “nice cream.” When frozen and then slightly thawed, the sugars and starches in bananas “stretch,” making the consistency and taste thicker and sweeter. When mixed with other flavors, the bananas quickly take on those flavors, making chocolate, peanut butter, or berry-flavored ice cream simple and delicious. The trick is always using frozen bananas, though, so hand on to those overly browned bananas!
Can I use powdered peanut butter?
Whether you use powdered peanut butter for watching calories or have a lot of it, powdered peanut butter can be used in this banana ice cream. Before adding the powder to the food processor, rehydrate the peanut butter powder to make the same amount of peanut butter required in this recipe. Using powdered peanut butter is easy to do and can reduce the amount of sugar and fat in this ice cream.

I tried the single serving and i enjoyed it very much. I found it difficult chopping the banana in my magic bullet, so I just stirred it all together with a spoon. Thank you very much. I will be using this again. 🙂
