Light, fruity rose wine mixed with vodka fresh juice make this Orange Strawberry Rose Sangria the perfect cocktail to share with friends!
Whenever I’m looking to serve cocktails to a crowd, I always reach for a favorite sangria recipe. Sangrias are quick and easy to make, look gorgeous in a glass, and are a delicious drink to sip on with friends. This rose sangria recipe is no exception. It’s fruity, sweet, and packs a serious punch (without tasting like straight-up alcohol!). It’s got similar flavors to one of my other fruity favorites – the classic Tequila Sunrise – but is based around rose wine and vodka. Orange Strawberry Rose Sangria is sure to become one of your favorite drinks!

Sangria is one of those cocktails that can make almost anyone happy at any time of year. I love a delicious red sangria recipe on a crisp fall night. Red sangrias warm your whole body inside and out. When the weather gets hot, I love mixing up a big, chilled batch of fruit-filled white sangria. It’s the perfect poolside drink.
One thing that you don’t run into super often is sangria made with rose wine. I love red and white sangria equally, so why not rose?! I’m an equal opportunity sangria enthusiast, so I decided to try it out (and I was NOT disappointed!).
Most people prefer their white sangrias chilled (much like their white wines…), I feel the same about this rose sangria recipe and I serve it up cold. It’s a delicious, cold, fruity cocktail that is super easy to make in a big batch to share. So, grab yourself some fresh strawberries and oranges and get mixing!
What is Sangria Typically Made of?
A true sangria typically has three main ingredients: alcohol, fruit, and a sweetener of some sort. One of the best things about sangria is that you can literally make it however you want. Have red wine? Great! Make a red sangria. Have extra apples on hand? Mix up an apple cider sangria. There is no wrong way to make a sangria. Here’s what you’ll need to make a delicious rose wine sangria:
Fruit – the thing that sets a good sangria recipe from just a regular old glass of wine is of course the beautiful fresh fruit that floats throughout the cocktail. I love sangrias because you really can find a sangria recipe for any type of wine and with any type of fruit. For this rose sangria recipe you’ll need fresh strawberries and oranges.
Alcohol – sangria does pack a little extra punch than your ordinary wine. For strawberry rose sangria you’ll need some vodka as a mix-in to really kick your sangria up a notch. I wouldn’t recommend going super cheap on the vodka because that stuff tastes like rubbing alcohol, but you don’t need to be wasting your top of the line liquor on sangria. The fruitiness of the wine and juices will mask some of the vodka flavor anyway!
Juice – to round out the cocktail perfection that is this rose sangria with vodka, you’ll need three different types of juice. Grab some orange juice, cranberry juice, and a splash or two of lime juice. These three juices mix beautifully with rose wine and help to highlight the fruity flavor of this rose sangria recipe.
How to make Orange Strawberry Rose Sangria
You’ll want to start out by making a homemade strawberry simple syrup. That sounds fancy and difficult, but it’s not! You do want to make this ahead of time though. It needs to be completely cooled before mixing into your rose sangria.
- To make strawberry simple syrup, just mix your sugar and water together in a medium saucepan. Add the whole strawberries and bring to a low simmer. Cook for 10 minutes without stirring.
- Next, strain your cooked strawberry syrup into a bowl or jar using a spoon to mash the strawberries as they strain. Skim off any bubbles. Store it in an airtight container in the fridge.
- Now comes the actual sangria making! Plop your orange and strawberry slices into a 2.5-quart pitcher.
- Pour in your orange juice, cranberry juice, lime juice, wine, vodka, and 1/2 cup strawberry simple syrup. (You can add more or less strawberry syrup to taste – kinda depends on your desired level of sweetness and how sweet the rose wine you chose to use is). Stir it all up to combine.
- Chill in the fridge for at least 2 hours (or overnight if you’ve got the time – the longer it sits in the fridge, the more the flavors become infused with each other making it even more delicious).
- When you’re ready to serve up your rose sangria, pour it into glasses. Be sure to add some extra fruit into each glass so they not only look beautiful, but you have some yummy fruit to munch on when you’re done!
What is a Good Rose Wine for Sangria?
When mixing up a delicious strawberry rose sangria, you want to be kind of picky about what rose wine you use. If you’ve got a favorite brand you typically buy, try it out! My one recommendation however is that you look for a rose wine that is more on the dry side than the sweet side.
If you choose a sweeter rose, the sangria might turn out a bit too sweet for many people’s taste. That’s because of the sugar from the simple syrup and fruit juices. If all you’ve got on hand is a sweet rose, then I suggest scaling back a bit on the strawberry simple syrup and adding more until you get to your desired sweetness!
One way to make this sangria even more fun is to turn it into a sparkling rose sangria… who doesn’t love a few bubbles in their cocktails, right?! If that sounds appealing to you, go ahead and mix up your rose sangria with a bottle of sparkling rose wine instead of the regular kind. You won’t regret it!
Is Sangria Stronger than Wine?
You might think that a glass of sangria has a higher alcohol content than a standard glass of wine because of the added liquor (in this recipe, it’s the vodka. In others, it’s brandy or another type of sweet liquor). However, most sangrias are only slightly more alcoholic than a glass of wine.
The reason is that the wine itself is “watered down” by the extra add-ins of the sangria (like the juices and simple syrup). So, the addition of the vodka almost evens out the lost alcohol content of the wine.
But, I do often feel like I get a little bit more tipsy when I’m drinking a sangria than when I’m sipping a glass of wine. The reason for this is because of how delicious sangria is… it goes down super easily haha. Rose sangria tastes like juice, so I definitely have to watch how fast I’m drinking it!
