Who said wine has to be boring? Filled with sweet fruit, Triple Berry Red Wine Slushies are the perfect way to have your wine and eat it too!
Triple Berry Wine Slush is an easy-to-make treat that you can keep frozen to enjoy when you want or to entertain friends! Sweet mixed berries, your favorite red wine, ginger ale, and a little sugar is all you need to create this tasty gift for yourself.
A Berry Good Time
I don’t think of all drinks or treats as being seasonal- I will eat or drink whatever I get a craving for at any time of the year! So whether it’s warm or freezing outside, this Triple Berry Wine Slush is always a great idea to me. I’d like to thank frozen berries for that gift. Without them, this drink (and other desserts) wouldn’t be possible. The comforting red wine and sweet-tart berry mix, combined with zesty ginger ale, are all amazing together when frozen to make an anytime grown-up treat.

Ingredients
Frozen Fruit: This recipe makes a good number of glasses, so you need two bags of frozen fruit. Mixed berry frozen fruit would be ideal, but if you have to buy individual fruits to mix, that works too.
Red Wine: Pick up a bottle of your favorite red wine. This can be sweet or dry, whichever you prefer.
Soda: Keep things bubbly and sweet with a bottle of Ginger Ale.
Sugar: In this recipe, the sugar is optional and can be used if you like your fruit more on the sweet side.
Garnish: You can top each glass with fresh raspberries, blackberries, or whatever berry you’d like.
How to Make Triple Berry Wine Slush
STEP ONE: Put the fruit, soda, wine, and sugar (if using) into a blender and blend until smooth. Your blender will be doing all the heavy lifting or blending, so decide ahead of time if it is big enough to blend everything in one batch or if you will need to make two batches.
STEP TWO: Pour the slush into a container or even a cake pan that can be frozen and place the container into the freezer for at least 6 hours.
STEP THREE: Break up the frozen with a fork, It should have a slushie consistency once you’re done.
STEP FOUR: Spoon the slushie into wine glasses and garnish with fresh berries and a sprig of mint for some color.
Tips for Success
- This is a great make-ahead drink, so you can keep it in the freezer for a while and scoop a glassful out whenever you feel like having a slushie!
- When it comes to mixed fruit, go with the berries or fruits you know you like and pair them well with red wine. Skip the blueberries if that’s not your thing, and go big with the raspberries if you want. It’s your slushie.
- The red wine in this slush will keep the mix from freezing solid, so when you scoop it into glasses, it won’t be like chipping off that small glacier you have in the back of your freezer. Still, it’s nice to have an ice pick to break up large portions of this slush.
Can you freeze wine for slushies?
Wine can absolutely be frozen to use in slushies or just to have on hand. To freeze the wine, carefully fill an ice cube tray with your choice of wine and then allow the wine to freeze completely before removing the cubes. You can use the cubes as soon as they freeze or place the cubes in a freezer bag to stay fresh. If you decide to use frozen cubes of wine in the above recipe, just know that the texture will be different- it will be more like a blended margarita with tiny chunks of ice. In contrast, the original recipe produces a texture more like a smooth slushie. Both are delicious, so you could try them either way!
How long do wine slushies last?
Wine slushies can last a good amount of time in the freezer if properly stored. The problem with most food and drinks stored in the freezer is the mingling of smells and freezer burn, so you must keep the wine slushie well sealed so that it doesn’t end up tasting like pork chops. Once the wine slushie has frozen, transfer it to a sealed freezer-safe container or freezer bag, and it should still be great for two to three months after.

Equipment
Ingredients
- 24 ounces frozen mixed fruit (2 bags)
- 750 mL red wine (I used a sweet table wine)
- 2 cups ginger ale
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (see note)
- Fresh berries for garnish
- Fresh mint for garnish
Instructions
- Place all of the ingredients in a large blender, or make two half batches in a smaller blender.
- Cover and blend until well combined. You may need to pause blending and stir to help things out.
- Pour the mixture into a large freezer-friendly container (a glass baking dish or bowl works great) and freeze for at least 6 hours.
- Take the container out of the freezer and break up the wine mixture with a fork. Spoon the slushie into wine glasses, garnish with berries and a sprig of mint if desired, and enjoy!
Notes
- You can start this recipe without any added sugar. Once everything is blended give the mixture a taste and blend in the sugar if desired.
- I used a combination of red raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries for the fruit, but you can use whichever frozen berries you prefer.

Could you throw this into an ice cream maker until it is done to speed up the time frame?

I’m not a fan of soft drinks and I don’t really like sweet things, so I’m wondering if I could leave out the ginger ale and just use more wine. Or maybe use an unsweetened carbonated beverage like La Croix or Dasani Sparkling?
