The Best Salsa
I have rarely met a salsa I didn’t love, as I’m sure most of you haven’t either. There’s just something so addictive and crave-able about the blend of veggies and spices that I will go through a bowl of salsa and a bag of chips in a heartbeat and not even feel bad about it. I might feel a little bad if my kids wanted me to share, but hey, all’s fair in love and salsa, right? This Easy Blender Salsa is perfect for an impromptu taco night or a fun get-together, as it only takes minutes to make and is everyone’s favorite snack!
Once you’ve had fresh salsa, you’ll be hooked, and other fresh salsas like Pico De Gallo and Roasted Tomatillo Salsa need to be next on your “salsa to make” list!
Other Recipes to Serve with Easy Blender Salsa
- Don’t forget about salsa’s best friend, Crock Pot Bean Dip! Bean dip and salsa are the perfect party foods, so buy lots of chips!
- Sure, you could enjoy the same cocktails you always make for salsa night but do yourself a favor (yes, flavor), and mix up Tequila Blackberry Hard Lemonade and make the night even better.
Ingredients
Pantry Items: You will need two cans of Rotel for this recipe.
Veggies: Fresh onion, garlic, cilantro, and jalapeno will all be used in this salsa.
Seasoning: For this salsa, you will need salt, pepper, ground cumin, and a little honey.
How to Make Easy Blender Salsa
STEP ONE: Add the cans of Rotel to a blender or food processor, along with the tops of the cilantro bunch (small stems are ok), quartered onion, garlic, salt, pepper, cumin, and honey.
STEP TWO: Cover and blend the ingredients until everything is finely chopped and liquid. The salsa can be enjoyed immediately.
Tips for Success
- If you are unsure about the spice level, leave the jalapeno out and taste-test the salsa once blended. The Rotel does have a little heat, so if you’re sensitive to heat, you can leave the jalapeno out or blend it in after tasting the salsa. You can also add a whole jalapeno or even a serrano if you like heat.
- This salsa can be served immediately, but if you can, let the salsa’s flavors develop by letting it rest in the fridge for an hour.
- Honey may seem like a weird ingredient in salsa, but the sugar helps to balance the acidity, which creates a more flavorful salsa.
Is a blender better for making salsa than a food processor?
Just as there are many ways to make salsa, there are many preferences for salsa texture as well! If you love your salsa with small to large chunks of veggies for ultimate scooping, then a food processor is the appliance to use. Food processors can chop pretty finely, but the salsa will not come out smooth. A blender would work better for a more liquidy, finely blended salsa. Both appliances will help you make great salsa, so use what you have and ensure you have lots of chips!
What is blended salsa called?
There are a variety of salsas in the world, from Pico De Gallo to Salsa Verde and everything in between. Blended tomato salsa is generally called salsa but is also specifically called Salsa Roja. A salsa composed of tomatoes, onion, cilantro, jalapeno, and garlic, Salsa Roja can be cooked or left raw and then blended and enjoyed. A similar salsa, Salsa Ranchera, contains roasted ingredients, including roasted green chilis and other ingredients, for a more “umami” taste profile.

Equipment
Ingredients
- 20 ounces Rotel Original (2 cans)
- 1 bunch cilantro stems removed
- ½ yellow onion peeled and cut into quarters
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon honey
- ½ jalapeno (see note)
Instructions
- Add the cans of Rotel to a blender along with the cilantro, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, cumin, and honey.
- Cover and blend until liquid.
- Pour into a dip bowl for serving or transfer to an airtight container and store in the fridge until you're ready to serve.
Notes
- If you’re worried about the spice level of this salsa, blend everything together without the jalapeno and then check the heat level. There is some heat in the Rotel from the green chiles. If you want the salsa to be spicier, add the jalapeno without seeds and blend again until it’s incorporated.
- If you want a hot salsa, add 1/2 to 1 whole jalapeno with the seeds. You can also add cayenne pepper to increase the heat level.

I think I’d be using this salsa like ranch…on everything! I’m actually posting a similar “sauce” tomorrow…be sure to come over and check it out. Laters, ladies!
