Ingredients
Jello Mix: I like the citrus combination of lemon and orange in these shots. Paired with the creamy milk layer, it’s like have an Orange Julius smoothie!
Sweetened Condensed Milk: Since there isn’t any white jello around, I used sweetened condensed milk rather having a clear “white” layer for these shots. It also tames the citrus flavor for jello shot perfection!
Unflavored Gelatin: Yes, those flavored gelatin mixes at the store are ready to go right out of the box. Adding unflavored gelatin helps stabilize the shots even more. Plus you need it to turn the sweetened condensed milk into “jello”.
Vodka: I like to keep things simple with a good vodka in these shots. Its neutral flavor doesn’t take away from the jello mixes. If you want, you could also use white rum instead of vodka. Whichever you have on hand is fine.
How to Make Candy Corn Jello Shots
This recipe is crazy easy, you’re basically going to repeat the same process three times. Let’s go!
STEP ONE: Add the lemon jello, 2 packets of unflavored gelatin, and 2 cups of boiling water to a mixing bowl. Whisk until the gelatin is completely dissolved. Then stir in 1/4 cup of vodka. Pour the lemon jello into each shot glass so that they are about 1/3 full. Chill for 20-30 minutes until the jello is mostly set.
STEP TWO: Add the orange jello, 2 packets of unflavored gelatin, and 2 cups of boiling water to a mixing bowl. Whisk until the gelatin is completely dissolved. Then stir in 1/4 cup of vodka. Pour the orange jello into each shot glass so that they are about 2/3 full. Chill for 20-30 minutes until the jello is mostly set.
STEP THREE: Add the sweetened condensed milk, 2 packets of unflavored gelatin, and 1 cup of boiling water to a mixing bowl. Whisk until the gelatin is completely dissolved. Then stir in 1/4 cup of vodka. Pour the white into each shot glass so that they are filled. Chill for 20-30 minutes until the jello is completely set.
Tips for Success
- To cut own on dishes, I washed and reused the same mixing bowl for each layer. It’s also highly recommened that you use a mixing bowl or large measuring cup with a spout to make pouring the jello easier.
- You can serve these shots in glass shot glasses or in plastic cups with lids (in case you’re taking them with you to a party). When I serve them in glasses, I usually provide little spoons or cocktial toothpicks to help loosen the shots from the cup if the non-stick spray doesn’t release them easily enough on a test shot.
- Garnishing jello shots makes them extra fun. I like using whipped cream, candy corn (obvisouly), or sprinkles for these shots. If you’re giong to use whipped cream, add it right before serving. Otherwise the gelatin will cause it to melt.
What is the best liquor for jello shots?
It really depends on the shot. Vodka is my go-to since you can pair it with any flavor of jello. But Rum is great with lime jello, and whiskey is pretty tasty with peach jello.
How many shots are in a jello shot?
Since we’re using 3/4 cup of vodka in this recipe and making 36 two-ounce shots, that’s about 1/6 of an ounce of vodka per shot. So you’d need about 12 of these jello shots to equal a standard 2-ounce shot of booze.
You can of course add more vodka, just know that the shots will have that boozy bite to them. But it’s kind of nice being able to throw them back and still be able to enjoy other drinks at the party without getting too tipsy too fast.

- Pour the lemon jello into the bottom of each shot glass so that it's about 1/3 full. Place the cups onto a baking sheet and chill in the fridge for 20-30 minutes until the jello is set.
- To a medium mixing bowl, add the orange jello, 2 packets of unflavored gelatin, and 2 cups of boiling water. Stir until the gelatin is dissolved. Pour in 1/4 cup of vodka and stir.

- Pour the white jello into each shot glass so that they're full, and then pop the cups back into the fridge for another 20-30 minutes until completely set.
- Keep the shots in the fridge until ready to serve. You can top these shots with whipped cream, candy corn, and Halloween-colored sprinkles if desired. If using whipped cream, add this right before serving so the gelatin doesn't melt it.
Notes
- You can also use 2-ounce plastic cups with lids instead of glasses if you’re taking these shots to a party.Â
