How to Make Country Style Pork Ribs
STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with foil and generously spray it with non-stick cooking spray. Place the ribs on the foil and season them all over with salt. Then, tightly cover them with more foil. (Spray this foil with non-stick spray, too, and crimp it onto the edges of the baking sheet.)
STEP TWO: Bake the ribs for 2 hours. Once the cooking time is up, remove them from the oven and carefully remove the foil. (If you have a good seal, There should be some liquid in the pan.) Baste the ribs thoroughly with barbecue sauce. Return them to the oven and bake for another 45-50 minutes to make them fork-tender.
STEP THREE: Carefully flip the ribs over and baste them with barbecue sauce again. Broil on high for 2-3 minutes on the middle rack, which will crisp up the edges nicely.
STEP FOUR: Let the ribs rest for 10 minutes before serving them with additional barbecue sauce and your favorite side dishes!
Tips for Success
- A teaspoon or two of apple cider vinegar mixed with your BBQ basting sauce adds extra flavor and tenderness.
- In this recipe, it’s important to use ribs from the pork shoulder, not the loin. More meat + more fat = more flavor!
- For juicier meat, always rest for 10 minutes after removing it from the oven (or grill).
Why Are My BBQ Ribs Tough and Dry?
Ideally, pork ribs should be slightly crisp outside and fork tender (but not QUITE, literally falling off the bone) on the inside. To get this result, it’s important to 1) Seal them securely in the cooking foil for the designated time and 2) Cook them at the right temperature for plenty of time.
If you increase the heat to reduce the cooking time, you will be sorely disappointed with tough, chewy meat. It’s the long, slow, steamy cook time that makes the ribs moist and tender.
Can I Fix Overcooked, Dry Ribs?
Yes, you can! Here’s how:
Whip up a 1:1 mixture of barbecue sauce and apple cider vinegar. Thoroughly coat the dry ribs with this mixture, then wrap them securely in foil (sealing the edges to prevent the steam from escaping). Put the ribs in the oven at 275-300 degrees F for just around an hour. This will steam those dry ribs nicely and improve their taste and texture immensely!

Equipment
Ingredients
- 3 pounds country style pork ribs
- ½ tablespoon salt
- ½ cup barbecue sauce
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F and line a baking sheet with foil. Spray the foil generously with non-stick cooking spray.
- Place the ribs on the prepared baking sheet and salt them all over. Coat one side of some more foil with non-stick spray and then tightly wrap the ribs. (I crimp the foil onto the edges of the baking sheet to make the seal.)
- Bake for 2 hours. Then carefully uncover the ribs (there should be liquid in the pan if the foil seal was tight enough). Baste the ribs with barbecue sauce.
- Return the baking sheet to the oven without covering the ribs and cook for another 45-50 minutes. When the cooking time is up the ribs should be fork tender. (If not, you can cook them for another 10-15 minutes.)
- If there is still a decent amount of liquid in the pan, soak some up with a paper towel. Then, use tongs to carefully flip the ribs over and baste them with barbecue sauce again.
- Broil on high for about 2-3 minutes until the edges are a little charred and crispy. You don't need to raise the oven rack, middle placement is best to prevent burning.
- Remove the ribs from the oven and allow them to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving with extra barbecue sauce and your favorite sides.
