I have some exciting news! I recently moved a bit further out from civilization. Although I have a longer commute, I now have lots of land and privacy! And what comes with lots of land? The ability to grow your own food. Lots and lots of food! Lucky for me, this new property of ours was loaded with about 15 well established over producing blueberry bushes! My plan is actually to wait to plant anything of my own until next year and I will spend the entire remainder of this year to see what bounty has already been planted. Then, next spring, I’m going to go wild and plant a HUGE garden.
If you have abundant blueberry bushes growing in your yard, or if you like to frequent the farmers markets like I do, there’s nothing better this time of year than fresh berries and herbs. I love to combine ripe berries and herbs all the time; strawberries and basil, blueberries and thyme, raspberries and lavender… the possibilities are endless! This cocktail is especially easy because no shaker or strainer is required. You just dump all the ingredients into your glass, smash them up real good, and then add your liquids. The longer you let them muddle, or stew in their own juices, the better! But I will totally understand if you don’t want to wait. No judgment here. You can easily make this kid friendly and non-alcoholic by omitting your favorite clear booze, or you can do what I did and add a splash (or two or three) of your favorite liquor. Enjoy!
