Let me just start off with the following… sweaters or scarves, knits or beanies, knit or crochet, or just yarn in general, in all their varieties, is so cool right now. With that said, I have 3 ways to update your winter sweaters in less than an hour!
That’s right, ALL THREE, can be whipped up together in under an hour. Maybe I have lived in Washington for too long or maybe it was that throwback to sweaters I watched a few weeks ago on The Goldberg’s but it’s been on my mind and all over the runways.
So grab some old sweaters, your sweaters, your partners, parents, your neighbor and let’s start deconstructing these babies….
First up, the Chanel inspired Sleeve scarf – you have to check it out (see here). Yup. A scarf that use to be a sleeve!! CRAZY, huh? No way! Totally couture and easy to do!
So, all I did for this look was cut the top off a men’s XL sweater from the 90s (my local thrift store helped me out with this one). That’s right, nothing new. We want the scarf chunky and cozy. To recreate this look, cut the top part (sleeve and shoulders), turn inside out and sew the raw edge together so it doesn’t unravel all over the place. You can zig-zag, whip stitch by hand, or serge the ends to help prevent fraying. Don’t worry about the neckline, no need to close it or mess with it, it’s a sleeve scarf – these details are pretty chic!
Next, was inspired by an awesome J Crew sweater (see here) I saw the other day, much like the first idea with the cutting, and we are using TWO sweaters. Sounds risky but this sweater material is easy to work with! Take 2 sweaters roughly the same size, lay on top of each other, match up the sides, cut along the mid bodice and sew together. Easy stuff. The hardest part will be deciding which sweater you want to alter. Again, you want to secure those ends from fraying.
Finally, this last one takes a little skill and was inspired by a post I did on a trench coat a couple months back on my blog (see here). Patches are a fun trend this season, whether you add them to your trench or sweater like I did here, or wherever you like, hence, the FUN – skies the limit!
Hopefully, this post will get you inspired to look at your wardrobe a little differently and bring new life to last year’s look; it’s an awesome feeling when you can own high fashion inspired pieces without breaking the bank!
Thanks so much for stopping by and have a glamorous day!
