Today I want to show you how I turned a plain wooden crate into a fun and unique Boho Chic Bedside Table for my daughter’s bedroom.
Let me give you a little background before I get to the tutorial. We are in the super early phase of a room makeover for my daughter Marley. She’s a pre-teen who loves all things boho chic, and she’s pretty much obsessed with anything involving her favorite show, The Walking Dead. I combined her love of boho with her love of TWD to create a very one-of-a-kind bedside table for her future awesome boho chic bedroom!
On with the show!
IÂ started with a plain wooden crate that can be found at most craft stores. The base coat I used is Krylon Metallic Gold spray paint.
After giving it a healthy dose of gold, I allowed my crate to dry overnight before moving on to the next phase.
When we finally makeover Marley’s bedroom, she’ll have purples and reds in her decor, so we opted to add a pop of red on the inside of her bedside table. It looked a little crazy next to the gold, but we aren’t finished yet, so hang on! I used Krylon Cherry Red spray paint for the inside, and allowed this to dry for a few hours.
To add a touch of “Marley” to this table, and truly make it unique for her, I used my Silhouette Portrait to cut out “Stuff & Things” in vinyl. This is a meme from The Walking Dead, and it also worked perfectly for wording on a table that will hold all of Marley’s stuff and things. (Hee hee…I love silly stuff like this!)
After cutting out the lettering, I used transfer tape to pick up the lettering from the vinyl backing and place it on the crate. Placement was a little tricky because of the gaps between the wood slats, but I did the best I could.
Once the letters were placed, I covered the entire exterior of the table in bright white spray paint, making sure to completely cover the letters.
After about an hour, I carefully peeled away the vinyl letters to reveal the gold beneath, showing the lettering “Stuff & Things”. I let the paint completely dry overnight before moving on to the final step.
Finally, I grabbed my sander and lightly sanded all over the bedside table to reveal bits of gold and make it more “boho” and weathered. The last step was to add casters to the bottom.
Now Marley has a unique Boho Chic Bedside Table that holds all of her stuff & things, like her laptop, Bible, and Bible study book. She can roll it around using the casters, use it for a small desk, or put her alarm clock and lamp on top for a true nightstand.
IÂ cannot wait to finish her room makeover! This bedside table project really got us both very excited to paint walls and rearrange furniture! Be sure to follow me on Sweet Tea & Saving Grace to see all the updates!
