Ingredients
Chicken: Chicken breasts, chicken broth, and cream of chicken soup are the foundation for this casserole! However, chicken thighs or turkey will also work. Other “cream of” soups like celery and mushrooms still give plenty of amazing flavor!
Dairy: You can’t have a creamy casserole without the deliciousness of dairy! We’re using milk, sour cream and melted butter for this one.
Dressing: A box of instant stuffing mix (your choice!) makes this recipe SUPER fast and easy!
Seasoning: Poultry seasoning, garlic powder, and dried parsley bring in tons of traditional flavor that’s out of this world!
How to Make Chicken Stuffing Bake
STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Grease or spray a 9×13 casserole dish. Cover the chicken in plenty of poultry seasoning and lay in the bottom of the baking dish.
STEP TWO: In a medium bowl, add the cream of chicken soup, milk, sour cream, garlic powder, and parsley and stir until creamy and smooth. Pour this mixture evenly over the chicken. (If you’re adding veggies, mix them with creamy contents. If you’re adding cheese, sprinkle it over the top of the chicken after pouring in the sauce.)
STEP THREE: Stir the stuffing mix and chicken broth in a small bowl. Allow the stuffing to sit for 2-3 minutes until it absorbs as much broth as possible. Scoop the stuffing on each chicken breast, then drizzle the tops with the melted butter.
STEP FOUR: Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the oven for 20 minutes.
STEP FIVE: Remove the foil and bake for another 20-25 minutes until the stuffing turns a beautiful golden brown and the chicken’s internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F. Serve warm with bread and veggies. Yum!
Tips for Success
- If you want fluffy stuffing, make the stuffing separately and scoop it over the top at the end.
- If you use pre-cooked chicken (rotisserie or frozen, diced chicken), lessen the cooking time. The casserole will be done when the stuffing turns golden brown.
- Elevate this casserole with spinach, crispy bacon bits, and a sprinkling of cheddar cheese on top of the chicken.
- Dice the chicken breasts into bite-sized chunks to feed small kids or a big group!
- Add in frozen veggies to make an easy, one-pan meal.
Can I Make Chicken & Stuffing Bake Ahead of Time?
This chicken and dressing recipe is IDEAL for a make-ahead casserole! Follow the instructions, except for baking. Cover the uncooked casserole and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. When you’re ready to bake, sit the casserole out and allow it to come to room temperature (about 30 minutes) before popping it into a preheated oven. It’s so easy and wonderfully yummy!
What’s the Best Way to Store Chicken & Stuffing?
For leftovers, simply store the chicken and dressing in an airtight container. This will keep in the fridge for up to 4 days and in the freezer for up to a month. Rewarm in the oven or in a microwave-safe dish, and enjoy!
This is also a GREAT recipe for making two casseroles at once—baking one and freezing one! If you go this route, cover the unbaked casserole tightly (I use plastic wrap and foil) and freeze for up to two months. When you’re ready to bake, thaw the casserole overnight in the refrigerator, then bake according to the instructions.

Ingredients
- 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts (about 2 pounds)
- 2 tablespoons poultry seasoning
- 10.5 ounces cream of chicken soup (1 can)
- ½ cup milk
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon dried parsley
- 6 ounces instant stuffing mix (1 box)
- 1 cup chicken broth
- ½ cup butter melted
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Coat a 9-inch x 13-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
- Season the chicken breasts all over with poultry seasoning. Arrange them in the bottom of the baking dish side-by-side in a single layer.
- In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the cream of chicken soup, milk, sour cream, garlic powder, and dried parsley until smooth and combined. Pour this mixture over the chicken.
- In a small bowl, stir together the stuffing mix and chicken broth. Allow to sit for 2 minutes so the bread can absorb the liquid. Divide the stuffing evenly over the top of each chicken breast.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Carefully remove the foil and bake for another 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through (165 degrees F internal temperature).
- Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes. Plate each chicken breast and spoon as much sauce from the baking dish over the chicken as you like. Serve warm with your favorite sides.
