I had a problem once with the chocolate chips, when I used semi sweet came out perfect . With the milk chocolate, not so much.

I have had that problem before with the chocolate chips. I now just melt the chips and spread the chocolate..Works better for me and I know I’m not going to end up with a unmelted chocolate chips

I love this recipe and I’ve made it for years for Christmas! How would this freeze?
Michelle says
My chocolate never melted- help! It turned out awful. The brown sugar and butter mixture was perfect. How can I get the chocolate to melt. I used regular milk chocolate chips. They were not expired. Help!
Real Housemoms JK says
Hey Michelle, the chocolate chips should melt just fine if the brown sugar is nice and bubbly from the oven. Make sure you are putting the chocolate chips on it right away before its cools off too much. Hope this helps.

Angela Canecchia says
Do you put in freezer to get hard?
Real Housemoms JK says
Angela, you don’t need to put it in the freezer. It should harden at room temperature. You can put it in the frig to speed it up.

Try Heath toffee pieces!!! Yummy 😋
Kristen Swinnely says
Can this be done in anyway without the oven?
Jennifer Kimmel says
Hello Kristen! This does need to bake for about 5 minutes in the oven.
Camoline Owens says
Kristen,
The idea is to get the brown sugar & butter mixture to the hard-crack candy stage but in order for it to bond to the cracker “base”, it needs to be way softer. Some folks who share their version of this recipe will tell you to water test the brown sugar mixture to be ready to pour over the crackers when it’s at the “soft ball” stage. Then you place it in the oven to finish cooking to the “hard crack” stage.
You could TRY pouring it over the crackers at the “hard crack” stage and see how it does without the extra baking. Or you could use a toaster oven and pan that fits it.
Some other folks suggest stirring in a tsp of vanilla before pouring it over the crackers, too. I also use different nuts depending on what I have on hand.
Merry Christmas 2020 and God bless!
