Watermelon colors and patterns seem to be VERY popular this summer and in my household, a watermelon can go more quickly than most any food. So I thought I’d transform some cute wooden serving spoons into Watermelon Wooden Serving Spoons with some paint, tape, and sealer. They took no time at all to make and now are my go-to serving utensils for when I serve watermelon to my family!
The idea is SO simple…start by taping off the ends where you don’t want the paint to hit.
From there, gather up your supplies of dark green paint, light green paint, pink and black paint, as well as some tape.
I taped off the top of my utensils and applied a layer of dark green paint and let it dry, then removed the tape.
From there I put another line of tape down and then used my lime green paint and did the same. I gently dabbed the lime paint over the green so it gave it a “messier” edge true to a watermelon.
From there, I removed the second layer of tape and started painting the remainder of the area with the pink paint. Once it was dry, I added black dots to resemble the seeds. After the whole thing was dry, I added a light coating of polyurethane and let it dry. I then hand washed them to make sure that everything was safe and any residue was washed off and then I used them for our watermelon tonight!
PERFECT, huh!? Enjoy your summer!
