BBQ Pork: Pulled pork with your favorite barbecue sauce is our meat of choice for these sliders. You can make it yourself or buy the prepared (pre-cooked) packages of shredded pork at the store. If you use store-bought pork, be sure to drain off any excess liquid.

Bread: Hawaiian rolls are a favorite for sliders of all kinds! We’re adding butter to these so their subtle, rich sweetness will add a nice layer of mouthwatering flavor!

Slaw: Our sweet and tangy homemade slaw features purple cabbage, grated carrots, mayonnaise, and apple cider vinegar. It’s seasoned with celery salt, sugar, and black pepper and is great on sliders or enjoyed as a side dish!

Seasoning: We’re adding even more flavor to these BBQ sliders with garlic powder and Italian seasoning.

How to Make Pulled Pork Sliders

STEP ONE: Make the slaw in a medium bowl by stirring the shredded cabbage and grated carrots. In a separate bowl, combine the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, celery salt, and pepper. Whisk well, then pour the mayonnaise mixture over the cabbage and carrots, and stir to coat. Cover and chill.

STEP TWO: Set the oven to Broil. Slice each Hawaiian roll in half and flip the tops over. Spread the insides of each half with 2 TBSPS of the butter and place on a baking sheet. Broil for 1-2 minutes. Remove the dish from the oven and adjust the oven setting to 350 degrees F.

STEP THREE: In another bowl, combine the pulled pork with the BBQ sauce. Transfer the bottom half of each bun into a baking dish. Add the BBQ pulled pork to each one and place the top half of the buns on the sandwiches.

STEP FOUR: Melt the remaining butter and stir in the garlic powder and Italian seasoning. Brush the tops of each bun with the garlic butter, then cover the dish with a layer of foil.

STEP FIVE: Bake at 350°F for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 3-5 minutes until the tops turn a gentle, golden brown. Remove the top buns from the oven, and immediately add the coleslaw to each sandwich before replacing the top bun. Serve warm and watch them disappear before your eyes!

Tips for Success

  • If possible, prepare the coleslaw a couple of hours ahead of time so the flavors have time to blend.
  • This recipe can easily be doubled or even tripled to feed a crowd!
  • Yes, these barbecue sliders are JUST as good with shredded chicken!
  • Want to change things up? Add cheese to make these even more filling. Add jalapenos – fresh or pickled – for a serious kick of spice! Add pineapple to make Hawaiian pulled pork sliders!
  • You can easily assemble these mini sandwiches half a day in advance. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate to bake later.
  • These are best eaten warm, so if you’re taking them to a picnic or party, keep them well-insulated.

How Many Sliders Do I Need for a Party?

Allow 2-3 sliders per person, with approximately 2oz. of meat on each mini sandwich. This means one pound of cooked pulled pork will yield about eight sandwiches. Of course, you can stretch that a bit further, especially if you add cheese to the sandwiches, or you can pile on the meat and get about six sandwiches per pound.

What’s the Best Way to Keep Sliders Warm?

These BBQ sliders are best fresh out of the oven, but you can’t always manage that – primarily if you’re serving these for a party or as a game day snack.

The best way to keep them toasty warm is to cover the sandwich tray with foil and leave them in a low, warm oven (150 degrees F). You can pop out a few anytime you need to replenish the serving tray. If you’re traveling with these sandwiches, consider wrapping each slider individually with foil. This keeps them warm longer and allows you to pop as many as you need back in an oven on low for a few minutes to rewarm.

  • In a small bowl, microwave the other 3 tablespoons of butter until melted. Stir in the garlic powder and Italian seasoning. Brush the garlic butter over the tops of the rolls. Cover the baking dish with tin foil.
  • Bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 3-5 minutes until the buns are golden brown on top.
  • Remove from the oven and take off the top bun layer. Spread the coleslaw evenly over the pork and then put the roll tops back in place. Transfer to a serving platter and cut into individual sliders. Serve immediately.
