Hello to all Aubrey’s Real Housemoms readers. I’m happy to be here today.
My name is Kim, and I blog at Cravings of a Lunatic which is a food blog full of easy recipes for busy families. I also have another blog called Kiss My Smoke which is all outdoor grilling recipes. I love to grill, and do it year round. Which when you live in Canada is a brave, and slightly crazy, statement.
I am trying my hand at a new niche as a contributor to Aubrey’s site. I have a serious love affair with DIY and organization projects. After being a stay at home mom for over 20 years, on a very tight budget, you learn a few things about how to save a buck, and how to do things efficiently. So I’ve signed on to contribute cleaning and organization projects to Real Housemoms.
The first time you post anywhere you get serious nervous jitters. I had such a hard time trying to narrow down ideas. So I went with something simple and quick. It also happens to be something every household could use one or two of.
I use a Plastic Bag Holder in my kitchen, and they are also fabulous to keep near the kitty litter, as well as in the entry by the dog leash. It comes in handy having them in those places. You can grab a bag quickly, without making a huge mess, or digging through mounds of bags.
They are super easy to make. You can cover the kleenex box with fabric or scrapbook paper. I took the easy way out. I buy these gorgeous kleenex covers at a local country craft store. I have them in every room. Usually 2 per room, that way we have quick access to kleenex, but the box is super pretty and matches my decor.
You can find them online by searching country kleenex box cover, they cost about $12 and are worth every penny of that price. I have about 8 in my house, with various designs. If you’re the crafting sort you can just as easily cover a box with fabric or scrapbook paper. I’m too lazy busy for that.
I’m a serious germophobe so I use brand new boxes. You should too. Otherwise I may not sleep at night worrying about it.
This is where my head spins a wee little bit. If there was a way I could advise you on how to disinfect plastic bags I would. One day, man, one day.
I had a shot with my hand in it, but do you really need to see that? Um, probably not. You get the idea without my giant hand in the way!
Now this is not only functional but pretty. So much cuter than just using a plain old kleenex box. Looks great on the counter or in the entry.
I hope you get a chance to use this little organizing tip. I’ll be back next month with a really cool trick for getting out stains from fabric. It will blow your mind.
We’re also embarking on some home projects. Right now we’re redoing a spare bedroom which will be my blog room. I traded rooms with my daughter, so I need to paint the room and find a way to organize such a small room.
On top of that we’re starting a pretty big kitchen project. We’re making a wall of mason jars along one long wall in our kitchen. We’ll make all the shelves ourselves and are designing a way to enclose them behind sliding barn doors to make it super pretty. So I will be sharing tons of pantry organization ideas, including how to organize spices and dry goods. I’ll show you how to do it and still make your pantry look cute. I mean we are girls, we need cute everything in our houses right.
Thanks to Aubrey and Julie for all their help along the way while I shared my first post. If you want to keep up with the impending home projects feel free to follow me on Instagram.
Thanks for reading. xx
