Spook up some night time fun  this Halloween with an easy DIY Faux Pumpkin Lantern Light!
Halloween is just around the corner and for weeks now I’ve been eyeing this fun black, white, and orange faux pumpkins at Target wanting to do something with them. They are $8 for a large pumpkin and $4 for a small and I think they make the best decoration ideas without having to drop a ton of money or worry about them rotting away before Halloween. So I grabbed a black faux pumpkin off the shelf for $8, as well as a string of 100 mini orange lights for $3.50 and headed home to make this cute DIY Faux Pumpkin Lantern Light.
Here’s what you need to make this:
Large Black Target Pumpkin ($8) or if you want to go a more fall or Thanksgiving route grab a white or orange pumpkin and put white lights inside
100 count orange lights from Target ($3.50)
Drill with the largest drill bit you have (I used the largest one in my husband’s kit)
Once you’ve gathered up your tools you look to the “back” of the pumpkin and drill a larger hole into it to fit the cord and the plug of your light. I just made several holes until they combined into one. And since it’s in the back towards the bottom no one should see it.
After you can get your light cord and plug through the hole (don’t put the lights in yet) I started randomly drilling holes all over the pumpkin. It takes a matter of minutes and is pretty fun, albeit messy.
Afterwards, you start adding your light string into the pumpkin. It seems like a lot, but it fills the pumpkin nicely and puts off good light.
Then you just plug it in and enjoy…above it with the lights on and below is with the lights off…
You could get fancy and spell out words or stack them on your porch in various layers. There are TONS of fun things to do with this idea. You could use the cream/white pumpkins and put orange lights in them for a Thanksgiving centerpiece or much more! Even consider using light sticks inside of them and doing muli color pumpkins for Halloween parties!!! So many fun ways to use this craft!! ENJOY!
