Fresh apples combine with boxed cake mix and butter for an amazingly delicious 3-Ingredient Apple Spice Dump Cake! Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and some salted caramel syrup for a treat that can’t be beat!
Have you ever made a dump cake? I have to admit, I’ve heard of them, but this is my first time baking one. It won’t be my last though because this is not only quick and easy to make, but it also tastes awesome! One thing I did learn about dump cakes is that they are far less cake-like and more crisp-like. Don’t expect this cake to cut into pieces for serving. Dump cakes are best served warm and scooped out with a big spoon, rather than sliced.
This time of year is all about apples to me! I live in an area where there is an apple orchard on just about every corner and fresh beautiful apples are plentiful. This is such a great recipe for Fall’s apple harvest! I used Macintosh apples, because I love how they get super soft in baked recipes, but you can use just about any baking variety you like. One of the best things about this cake is that you can actually customize it to your own tastes! I know it’s supposed to only be three ingredients, but I think some pecans and maybe some golden raisins would be wonderful additions to the basic recipe! YUM! I’ll be adding them next time for sure!
How easy is this cake? So easy. Three easy steps…
First, peel and core the apples, then cut into chunks. You will need about 6 cups of apples. Spread them into a prepared 13-inch x 9-inch glass pan.
Next, evenly sprinkle DRY cake mix over the apples, making sure there are no big clumps.
Lastly, pour melted butter (I used unsalted butter) as evenly as you can over the cake mix, making sure to cover as much of the dry mix as you can. Then bake in oven as directed.
That’s it! Your house is going to smell all sorts of Fall wonderful as this bakes too!
I served my Dump Cake with a big scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and drizzled some salted caramel syrup on top!
My family devoured this recipe and yours will too!! Make it now while the apple crop is plentiful!
