Unless you live in Texas like I do, you are probably in full-fledged fall mode right now. Wearing scarves, jeans, boots the whole she-bang. Probably because it’s actually necessary to wear these items to stay warm. In Texas I’ve been wearing fall clothes since September even though it has still literally been in the low 90’s. Scarves are completely unnecessary, but I’ve been wearing them anyways. One thing I can say without a doubt is that I can never own enough scarves. I’ve been a little bored with the ones I have, so I decided to make my own.
I already have all the supplies so that makes this t-shirt scarf free which is even better. New scarf, no money, win-win.
All you need is a Men’s large T-shirt and some scissors.
- Cut the top portion of the shirt off, right along the armpits, and then cut the bottom portion into 1 inch sections.
- Stretch out all pieces by pulling on each end of the loop {make sure not to pull too hard otherwise the shirt will break}.
- Cut 3 scrap pieces from the top portion of the shirt and them braid together. Tie off each end.
- Gather all long, stretched out pieces together, and wrap the scrap braid you just made around one area of the gathered pieces. Tie the two ends of the braid together after it’s been wrapped around the scarf. Double the scarf around your neck or wear it long.
The nice thing about this project is that you can use any color of t-shirt that you want. I would have preferred a hot pink scarf, but unfortunately my husband doesn’t own any hot pink shirts that I could demolish and I wanted to keep this project free. If you want a smaller scarf you could use a women’s shirt, it just wouldn’t be nearly as full and you could probably only wrap it around your neck once.

I loved the idea of the DIY T-Shirt Scarf, but I tried to follow the instructions on how to put it together. It did not work. Maybe more photos and better write instructions would help. What do I do with the braid and when do I remove the starting end clip? How do I secure the last part of the braid? Now what do I do? Please help.
