It’s always a little tricky to have a healthy breakfast in the morning, but I think smoothies are one of the best ways to do it. Just pop the ingredients in the blender, then blend until it’s smooth and creamy. They’re also great to grab on the go because after all, drinking a smoothie while driving works a whole lot better than having avocado toast or scrambled eggs.
After all the indulgence of the holidays, I always feel like my body needs a little reset. So come January, I’m always looking for healthier options – which is precisely where the idea for this smoothie for weight loss recipe came about.
Basic Smoothie Ingredients:
- Strawberries
- Banana
- Yogurt
- A little juice
You can use fresh or frozen berries, and to be honest, frozen berries often work better because your smoothie will be thicker. Then I like to add a little Greek yogurt for more protein. Plus I think it makes the smoothie more filling.
If you want to make this strawberry banana smoothie dairy free, just omit the yogurt and substitute it with 1 cup of ice cubes. Also, if you prefer just a banana smoothie recipe then follow everything listed and of course leave out the strawberries.
Sometimes for smoothie recipes, I’ll make smoothie packs on the weekend if I’m doing meal prep which makes it even easier and faster in the morning. In small freezer bags, I’ll measure out the strawberries and banana, then pop it in the freezer. That way in the morning all I have to do is to add the contents of the freezer bag and the yogurt and juice to the blender.
How to make a smoothie
Gather your favorite ingredients and blend! Be sure to use either juice or water to help keep things moving.
Smoothie recipes for weight loss should start with less and can always be made to add more, the goal here is to maintain portion control.
You can also add some extra protein to this strawberry banana smoothie. I’ll often add in a scoop of vanilla protein powder, or some hemp hearts. With the Greek yogurt, fruit and extra protein, it makes this smoothie more of a meal and fills me up for the rest of the morning.
I love the fact that smoothies are naturally sweetened with just the strawberries, banana and juice. However, if you prefer it a little sweeter, you could use vanilla or strawberry flavored yogurt, a little honey, or a sweetener.
