Do you ever get frustrated with standing water at the bottom of your shower? I’m all for this great baking soda and vinegar trick, but it doesn’t work on tough hair clogs. If you have any kind of medium to long hair I know you have this happen. The average woman loses between 100-150 hairs a day, so don’t let those hairs in the drain scare you. I’m going to show you the easy and best way to unclog hair from your shower.
Here is what my shower looks like after 1 minute one the hair builds up. I’m afraid I have to take the blame, the hubby is bald. By the time I’m finished I’m standing in a small lake.
Our shower is 25 years old, the grout won’t even come clean and it never has. I’m really baring my soul here showing you my dirty grout and drain, but I know you will forgive me when I show you how easy it is to unclog your shower drain this way.
I’ve tried lots of different drain cleaners, but just pouring a liquid down it is not going to dislodge a big hair clog. Then I tried Liquid Plumr double impact snake + gel system. It took me less than 5 minutes to unclog my drain and it lasts for a solid 2-3 months.
The secret is in the snake. The snake grabs the hair and pulls it out. Let me show you. First you just push the snake down into the drain. Don’t worry you will not push the hair further into the drain.
The snake has little teeth on it that grab the hair. Now I will warn you that this next part is not for the weak at heart. This is real life folks so get ready to see what I call the dead rat….
I know it’s gross, all that hair and soap. YUCK! But it is a necessity at times. One tug and all this came out. Just throw the snake and the dead rat in the trash. Take the bottle of drain cleaner to get the sludge sticking to the sides of your pipes to wash away. Pour the entire bottle in and wait.
After 10 minutes, flush with hot water and your hair clog is gone. No more showering in standing water.

Blech! That grosses me out every time I’ve had to do it. This is great advice to make it easier though. I’m glad I stopped losing so much hair lately because this is my least fave household chore to do.

I’ve never actually cleared a hair clog from a shower drain before. It doesn’t look like it’d be too hard to take care of, though it does look pretty gross. I’ll just be glad to have it done so I won’t have to worry about it again for a long time.
