OK. First week done and I’m excited to report that I lost 3 pounds!!! I have a couple of friends that go to my gym and they asked me to go to a Body Pump class with them. I’m so glad that they did because for me the first day back is hard! I start to gain momentum fast once I get that first workout in, but i dread the starting again. Let me tell you I was SORE!!! It’s a really great class and I love it! That’s the key, find a class or exercise that you love! That way you want to go back.
I’ve found a few that I love. Barre3 was the first one I fell in love with back in the spring. It’s a combination of ballet, pilates and yoga. I get such and intense workout but I feel really good and connected to my body when I leave. My back and knees give me trouble and Barre3 has made a huge difference and allowed me to be more active without pain!
I’ve also started to take a lot of spin classes at my gym. I go a few times a week and love it! I really have to push myself and I get a crazy hard workout in. When I leave my face is bright red and I look like I haven’t been breathing for the hour but trust me I have.
For me, I have to create outside excitement to get the motivation to workout in the beginning. I got new shoes that I love and get excited about wearing! These are the Nike Free 4.0. They support my foot, they’re super light weight and they’re really flexible, so I can move my foot easily! They’re my second pair of Nike Frees and I love them so much!
I also got the Fitbit Aria Scale. I had a scale but decided to go with this one because I like that it will calculate my body fat percentage. I think that’s key for me because there may be times when I am seeing changes to my body but not to the number on the scale. This will give me another metric to see change beyond the number of pounds.
I recently saw this quote on Instagram and loved it! I follow this trainer because I love all the before and after photos. There are a lot that don’t look like my before picture but I love her focus on healthy positive changes. I tend to align myself with people that have a positive outlook. I absolutely believe that change is easier when you’re positive! I am still loving my Fitbit and seeing my progress and watching what’s going in and going out. I am making sure that I’m burning more than I’m eating and I’m making slow changes to what I eat. This is a long journey and I have to make changes that I can keep up with. We celebrated my son’s 10th birthday and he wanted a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, Kit Kats and M&M’s. Not easy for me but I did make sure that I logged the food and got in my workouts so that I knew if I could have a slice. I did and it was good! I love that I had chocolate cake and was still able to lose 3 pounds. That’s something I can live with.
I know that it’s silly to want to wear my new shoes and and on a scale just because it’s new but really any little trick I can do to make this journey fun and lasting I’m up for. It’s like a game just trying to find what works for you and then making sure to keep looking for the fun!
