Three Simple Steps to Luscious Lemonade!
I LOVE this berry lemonade recipe! One-two-three simple steps to fun, fabulous homemade flavor – you’ll never use powdered lemonade mix again! Step One is squeezing your lemons for the freshest juice possible. Step Two is making a spectacular blackberry sauce with water, sugar & berries. Step Three is to make a simple syrup from water & sugar, as it dissolves more smoothly than granulated sugar. Mix, ice, and serve!

Ingredients

Lemonade: You need about 3-4 fresh lemons for this recipe – that’s it!
Blackberry Sauce: Fresh blackberries (or frozen) mixed with granulated sugar and water make a thick syrup that’s full of berry flavor!
Simple Syrup: Granulated sugar and water
Garnish: A garnish is always optional, but a twist of lemon or a sprig of basil makes a nice, colorful addition to your glasses!
How to Make Blackberry Lemonade
STEP ONE: Start by rolling the lemons on the counter to loosen up the fibers (AKA make them easier to squeeze). Then cut in half and squeeze the juice into a large mixing bowl.

STEP TWO: Into a medium saucepan, add water, sugar, and blackberries. Bring to a boil for 5 minutes. Place a mesh strainer over a medium bowl and pour the blackberry syrup through the strainer. Use the back of a spoon to press down on the blackberries to release any extra juice. Pour the blackberry syrup into the lemon juice.

STEP THREE: Add water and sugar to a medium pot. Boil for 2 minutes, stirring with a wooden spoon until the sugar has completely dissolved. Add this simple syrup to the blackberry/lemon mixture.

STEP FOUR: Add 3 cups of ice to a 2.5-quart pitcher. Pour in the blackberry lemonade and 2 cups of COLD water. Give it a quick stir, then serve. Absolutely DELICIOUS!

Tips for Success
- You can adjust the sweetness of this drink by adjusting the amount of simple syrup to your liking.
- Bottled lemon juice works fine, but there is nothing quite as spectacular as fresh-squeezed lemonade!
- Use 2 ounces of blackberries and 4 ounces of raspberries in the sauce to make Razzleberry Lemonade!
- Add a splash of vodka, rum, tequila, or whiskey for a lightly spiked drink.
- One lemon will yield about ¼ cup of juice.
- Pour the blackberry lemonade into popsicle molds and freeze for the kids to enjoy on a hot day.

What’s the Easiest Way to Juice a Lemon?
There is more to know about juicing lemons than just squeezing! Room-temperature lemons yield far more juice than cold lemons, so leave them on the counter or warm them in a bowl of hot water for a couple of minutes, or microwave them for 10-20 seconds each. Also, you should hand-roll them on your countertop to break up the membranes inside the lemon. Finally, rather than nick a hole in the top of the lemon, slice it open down the side. Now, squeeze the fresh juice into a bowl or pitcher and gently remove the seeds with a spoon.

How Long Will Homemade Berry Lemonade Last?
The acid in lemons is an effective preservative. So, stored in a covered pitcher in the refrigerator, homemade lemonade should last a full week or more – but trust me – it will be long gone before the week is up!
