This is one of my ultimate back-pocket dessert recipes. It takes literally minutes to make this if you do as I do and make it in the microwave.
And while I always feel like a total cheat when I serve this because I spent less than 5 minutes on dessert, it is always a winner. EVERYBODY loves this. In fact, sometimes I wonder why I bother slaving in the kitchen for hours making towering cakes with fussy decorations when my family and friends are just as happy with Chocolate Fondue.
One of the things I really love about Chocolate Fondue, other than how speedy it is, is that it can be served with all manner of things. In these photos I got a classic vanilla cake and strawberries as dippers – these are my favorites. But other things I often use include marshmallows, cookies (biscotti is my favorite), and pretty much every type of fruit under the sun.
Except bananas. Any other normal person would probably think bananas are an obvious choice. And you might think me totally odd for confessing this…but I hate bananas with a vengeance. I’m not a fussy eater by any means. I mean, I’m not one for chicken feet and other offal (unless fancied up at posh restaurants!), but other than bananas, I don’t dislike anything. 🙂
So yes, if you’re a normal person, then go ahead and add a banana to your chocolate fondue platter. 😉
While cake and marshmallows are great, in my humble opinion, you can’t beat strawberries. Warm silky chocolate and strawberries are a match made in heaven. ???
I like serving Chocolate Fondue on a platter to share, but when I’m making an effort to put on a formal dinner party, I make individual servings too. I use small ramekins and glasses – anything that’s the right size for a single serving.
Chocolate Fondue can be made ahead then gently reheated just before serving (it thickens when it cools).
