Fabric Covered Corkboard
I was recently looking around my house at all of my decorations and noticed that every single picture frame I have is black or brown. Literally, every single one! How boring is that? I realized that I need a little DIY project to spice things up a bit.
Since becoming a stay at home mom, I’ve been trying my best to stay organized. I thought something that would be helpful to keep me organized and add a little decor to my house would be a cork board. I can post bills on there that need to be paid, pictures, recipes a little bit of everything. Plus a cork board is so versatile, I can use it for decoration or necessity. Now a plain ol’ cork board would just add to the boringness of my house so I decided to add fabric and a nail head trim.
The Production Crew (aka, supplies):
- Canvas Style Corkboard 24″ X 34″ {Joann’s}
- 1 Yard of Fabric {Hobby Lobby}
- Silver Thumbtacks 2 pks, 200 count {WalMart}
- Hot Glue Gun, Laser Level, Tape Measure, Pen, Straight Edge
Step 1: Lay corkboard on top of fabric, trim the excess – you only need about 2 inches around the corkboard
Step 2: Hot Glue Fabric to corkboard. For the edges, just fold and wrap them like a present. Make sure that you pull the fabric tight and press down on the hot glue to the secure the fabric to the board.
Step 3: Now that the fabric is attached to the board you need to draw guidelines to apply the thumbtacks. Using a tape measure, start on one side and measure 1 1/2″. Set your laser level on the board and make sure your laser line is straight. Use a straight edge to draw a line on the laser.
Step 4: Press thumbtacks into board to create a “nailhead” trim. I used around 300 tumbtacks and it took me probably 45 minutes or so.
Step 5: The corkboard came with 3M hanging stickers, so I applied those to the back of the board and pressed itonto the wall.
Last, but not least admire the beauty of your work and be impressed that you were able to create this masterpiece during naptime.

Thanks Lynette! This is such an easy project and would be perfect in a sewing room!

Such a simple idea, yet very stunning and pretty! I did a similar project for my teen daughters room, only we used a zebra print fabric.
