February is almost here and you know what that means?! It’s almost Superbowl time!!!
This little craft is crazy easy and so much fun to play with. These DIY Penalty Flags would make a great man-gift and are lots of fun when watching the big game.
Does your husband get all riled up about football? Mine does. Like, crazy riled up. He’ll fling his arms about while screaming “THROW THE FLAG!!” followed by a string of profanities. I’ve been meaning to make him some of these for a while, hoping that throwing the flag himself might save him the busted blood vessels.
I used some lightweight polyester for the fabric. It doesn’t fray, making this a quick no-sew project. I bought 1/3 of a yard of each color and have enough to make several sets of these. You’ll need yellow and red. The yellow is a penalty flag and the red one is a coaches challenge flag. In Canadian football, the penalty flag is orange and the challenge flag is yellow. That fact cannot be confirmed since no one on planet Earth has ever seen a Canadian football game.
Having a couple extra sets of these on hand would be great for when you have a rival fan coming over to watch the game.
Cut a 12″ by 15″ piece from each color.
You have several options for this part. I filled mine with quinoa, partially because we didn’t have rice and partially because this crap is gross. I mean, what else am I going to use it for? You can also use sand, pebbles, a round bouncy ball, heck, you could even just wad up a piece of paper and put it in there. Be careful about what you put in there, though. Several years ago a player got hit in the eye with one of these things that was filled with bb’s. He was out for something like 3 years and I think NFL had to pay him several mil for his injury. The NFL now uses sand.
I used 2 table spoons of quinoa. Gather up the corners and secure tightly with a rubber band.
Done!
While you’re at it, make sure to make your self a set of these. I plan on using these to communicate better with my husband. Leaving a pen in your pants pocket? Penalty flag. Insisting on watching Lizard Lick Towing? Ugh, that’s a challenge flag all day.
Go Cowboys!

I was searching for a different kind of flag from Google and I landed here. wow! I must say that I like the idea because there is a football freak around this place. I am surely going to try this out- someone needs a red card 🙂 Thanks a lot for the share, made my day!
