CREAMY CLAM DIP is a delicious vintage appetizer full of minced clams in a cream cheese base that is sure to be a hit at your next summer party or BBQ!
I’ve always loved New England Clam Chowder and Linguine and Clams, but can you believe, I’ve never had clam dip until I made this version the other day? How crazy is that? I mean, clam dip is like ‘THE” ultimate vintage summer recipe, isn’t it? Apparently, back in the 1950s a recipe for it appeared on “Kraft Music Hall” causing canned clams to sell out of the stores in NYC the next day!
Whenever I think of clam dip, I have visions of myself sitting on a beach somewhere, with the salt air and sun, dipping salty potato chips in a big bowl of this creamy delight! The beach is one of my happy places! I’ve spent much of the winter this year in my happy place by the sea, the gulf coast of Florida. Since my daughter relocated there this past summer, I’ve been making time to visit at least once every couple of months. I can totally see us packing this dip in our cooler and bringing it the shore the next trip to the beach. The ocean makes me crave seafood! Does that happen to anyone else?
Not only is this dip delicious, but it’s so easy to make. You probably already have everything you need in your fridge and pantry (except maybe the clams). It’s great served with kettle potato chips because they can really stand up to the thick dip, but it’s also wonderful with veggie dippers like cucumbers, carrots, celery, and peppers!
I garnished my dip with some snipped chives, which complemented it perfectly and gave it a little color! Have you ever tried clam dip? If you have, do you love it or is it something you’d pass on? My family loved this dip and I see it making it’s way on our menu often this summer!
