There’s so much more to love about football season than just football. Don’t get me wrong, football is my jam. I love watching a good game but I also love having friends over to watch with, snacking on tons of game day food and sipping on drinks while we watch. It’s like having an excuse to get together with friends every weekend. When I was young I didn’t need an excuse, it was understood that we’d be getting together. Now, there are kids and jobs and responsibility. I need excuses. I’ve been traveling a lot this year and I’ve ;missed some of the games at home so now that I’m finally home for a few weeks I want to have friends over to watch the game. Anytime I’m having friends over I start the planning with the food and drinks! I was brainstorming with my husband and we realized we haven’t had a good chili dog in years! So the decision was made to serve up Classic Chili Dogs!
Classic Chili Dogs aren’t made by just putting your regular chili on top of a hot dog. It’s got to be thick and meaty with a tangy flavor (you can even use Kosher beef if you follow a Kosher diet). Not only that but if you’re serving up hot dogs to your friends at your game day party you’ve got to serve them the best tasting hot dogs. We always serve up Hebrew National Hot Dogs. They’re made with 100% Kosher beef. I can read the label and pronounce all the ingredients and because they’re Kosher I know that they are made with stricter regulations than other hot dogs. We’ve all heard the hot dog jokes. Mystery meat comes to mind and I love that with Hebrew National Hot Dogs I don’t have to worry about it and my friends feel comfortable enjoying Classic Chili Dogs!
I like to make up a toppings bar when I serve up Classic Chili Dogs. You could top with green onions, purple onions. I made a sample batch for dinner the other night and only topped with the green and purple onions. It was amazing! I love the tangy and slightly sweet flavor on top of the savory hot dog with the fluffy bun! It truly is the best meal for a fun game day with friends!

Too sweet … needed a better balance. Less vinegar and sugar.

It’s worth mentioning that the original chili dog didn’t use hot dogs at all. It was chili in place of the dog on a traditional hot dog bun.
