These easy DIY Wooden Picnic Chargers are perfect for any table, any event, and any budget. And you can make them for around .50 cent each. Here’s how!
Over at Southern Revivals we’re busy finishing up a clubhouse for our kids in the backyard. And as with any of our builds, there are always scraps left over.
Last time I built a Platform Dog Bed from scraps. This time there’s a whole pile of leftovers so I’ll have lots of fun figuring out what to make from them.
Last weekend while we were having a picnic on the back patio I had what I thought was a grand idea. As my flimsy paper plate buckled under the weight of ice cream cake I thought, wouldn’t it be great if the picnic table had chargers? You know, so I could pile my plate as high with ice cream as I like and still make it to the table without spilling a drop. A little support system for your picnic paper plates that could also double as hotplates to keep your hands and your table surface safe.
Supplies You’ll Need:
- Cedar Fencing Board
- Saw (or have them cut at the store)
- HotStamps Alphabet Set
- Wood Burning Tool
So I took my little leftover pile of wood (cut from cedar wood fencing boards) and paired them with my trusty HotStamps and wood-burning tool. You can find cedar fencing boards like I used at Lowe’s for under $3 bucks each. You’ll get about 5 equal cuts, after shaving off the rounded top section, making each charger about $0.50 cents each.
I love the look of these wood burned letters.
Simply let them heat for a few minutes and then press lightly into the wood for a few seconds.
And in just a few minutes, you’ll have this.
Or all of these!
They are just so fun. Use them as chargers under your plates for a cute tablescape, use them to help you transport hot food, or use them down the center of your table to hold hot dishes in style.
So fun. So easy. So cheap. And so worth it! What’s your favorite way to decorate your summer table?
