Green bean casserole is a classic side dish around our table during the holidays it works hand in hand with our favorite Sweet Potato Casserole, meanwhile this easy recipe will enable you to check one more thing off your menu for your holiday planning.  Being a host during the Holidays can be pretty overwhelming so having recipes like this easy recipe for green bean casserole made with a simple creamy sauce and topped with crispy french fried onions will make life that much tastier.

This recipe for green bean casserole is one of my favorites.  There are certain recipes that are tried and true during the holidays and green bean casserole is a classic.  You will love not only the taste and flavor but the simplicity that comes with making it.  Casseroles are a great way to feed a crowd for any occasion and this tuna noodle casserole or tater tot breakfast casserole are both delicious and easy to make for family and friends when they get bored with leftovers.

Quick Fact: Green bean casserole was created by Campbell’s in 1955 and is a very popular casserole for the Holidays.  It consists of cream of mushroom soup, green beans, and french fried onions.

How to Make Green Bean Casserole

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray a 9×13 baking dish lightly with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl combine cream of mushroom soup, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, and pepper.
  3. Stir in green beans.  Spoon half of the bean mixture into prepared baking dish and sprinkle with half of the french fried onions, then top with remaining green bean mixture.
  4. Bake for 35 minutes, uncovered.  Add the remaining onions to the top of the beans and bake an additional 5 minutes.  Remove from oven and serve.

Can you make green bean casserole ahead of time?

Yes.  If you want to make this green bean casserole recipe the day before you can, just make sure to wrap it well with plastic wrap or foil and keep in the refrigerator.  Before getting ready to bake, remove the casserole from refrigerator and let sit out at room temperature for 30 minutes.  Bake and then add additional fried onions to the top.

Can you freeze green bean casserole?

Yes.  Make sure it is wrapped well with foil and plastic wrap.  It will keep in the freezer for about 2 weeks.  When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350 degrees and make sure to remove both the plastic wrap and foil.  Cook until the casserole is hot and bubbling.

Your family, friends, and guests will quickly understand why this is the best green bean casserole they’ve tried and will look forward to the creamy goodness it brings every year to their Holiday festivities.

Ingredients

  • 21 oz condensed cream of mushroom soup (two 10.5-ounce cans)
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic salt

  • 6 oz French fried onions divided

    Very disappointed by this recipe. I anticipated use of real- unprocessed – ingredients. Instead this is the same tired can-o-crap recipe.

      I understand what you’re looking for; however, that is how green bean casserole came into existence. These are the ingredients used. This recipe is just our variation of an old tradition. I’m sorry this wasn’t the version you preferred.
