Tips for Success

  • Slow is the key to amazing caramelized onions. Cranking up the heat will only burn the onions, so give them time and cook them slow, and you’ll get rich, golden, delicious caramelized onions every time!
  • You can enjoy French onion dip immediately, but if you have time, let it chill in the fridge for a few hours overnight. This will allow the flavors to develop, and the taste will be even more amazing.
  • Cover and refrigerate any leftover dip for up to five days.

What is the difference between onion dip and French onion dip?

Just like the additional word French in front of onion dip, there’s one additional ingredient, too! There might be two, depending on the recipe, but you get it… You can taste the difference between the two dips easily if you were to sample them side by side, as French onion dip includes beef bullion or Worcestershire sauce in this recipe, while onion dip does not have either. The deep umami flavor that makes French onion dip so addictive is the key ingredient that sets the two dips apart!

What do you eat with onion dip?

French onion dip is one of those perfect dips because you can enjoy it with many things! By far and away, salty, wavy potato chips are a crowd favorite- they’re sturdy and can hold a lot of dips! Regular potato chips, crackers, and sliced veggies, like sweet peppers and celery sticks, are also great with dip. Slather this dip on sandwiches and burgers and taste what a game-changer it is! Lastly, put a bowl of French onion dip on your charcuterie board and let everyone dip whatever they want in it, as long as it’s not their fingers!

  1. This looks so good! I was wondering if you think it could be made using a full cup of Greek Yogurt instead of the mayo? Thanks!
