One sip of this Frozen Banana Daiquiri will transport you to a tropical paradise. It is the perfect cocktail for summertime sipping!
Banana is one of those fruits that you either love or you hate. I happen to love them! I also love how bananas are such an amazing natural sweetener, like in my go-to strawberry banana smoothie.
This Frozen Banana Daiquiri is like the boozy smoothie you never knew you needed in your life. Because if there is one thing I have come to love most about bananas, it is how well they pair with rum!

This Frozen Banana Daiquiri recipe really does make you feel like you are on a tropical island. The sweetness of the banana mixed with the citrus of the fresh lime and orange juice is the perfect pairing.
These banana daiquiris are so easy to make, which is great because you will undoubtedly be blending up several rounds of this summertime favorite!
WHAT GOES IN A DAIQUIRI?
Frozen Bananas- If you have never worked with frozen bananas before, they are like magic! They are the perfect sweetness and really help to add a creaminess to the daiquiri, as opposed to the icy texture some blended cocktails have.
Orange Juice- Whatever orange juice you have on hand will work. I prefer to work with pulp-free 100% pure squeezed juice, not from concentrate. If you happen to be out of OJ, pineapple juice is a great substitution.
Rum- The best part about this recipe is you get to use two types of rum! A light rum and a dark rum combine forces to make this banana daiquiri recipe. You can also substitute in coconut rum, spiced rum, or even banana rum if you want to experiment with your tropical flavors!
Banana Liqueur- The banana liqueur in this recipe is optional, but if you love bananas as much as I do you probably already have this on hand!
HOW TO MAKE A BANANA DAIQUIRI
All you need is a blender and some fun cocktail glasses, and maybe some festive straws and cocktail umbrellas!
- In a blender, combine the frozen bananas, light rum, dark rum, lime juice, orange juice, powdered sugar, banana liqueur, and 1 cup of ice.
- Blend the banana daiquiri ingredients together until they are smooth.
- For a thicker daiquiri, add more ice and blend again, if desired.
- Pour into cocktail glasses and garnish with straws, umbrellas, or fruits of your choosing! You may even consider a little decorative sugar on the rim for fun!
You can easily turn this recipe into a strawberry banana daiquiri recipe! There is no exact science on exactly how many fresh or frozen strawberries to add, just trust your gut! I would suggest starting by replacing 1 banana in this recipe with 1 cup of strawberries. You can always adjust to taste for the second batch!
WHAT’S THE BEST RUM TO USE IN DAIQUIRIS?
Dark Rum- Plantation Original Dark Rum is my go-to dark rum. But I also love the Plantation Pineapple when I know I am blending up something fruity and delicious! If you are looking to buy something you can use for lots of different recipes, you cannot go wrong with the Bacardi 8.
Light Rum- Bacardi Superior White Rum is a no-brainer. It is easy to find, relatively inexpensive, and extremely versatile for all of your bartending needs.
I also like Flor de Canã, which is another affordable option that works great with poolside cocktails. You can also experiment with other flavors of light rum, like Kōloa Coconut Rum or Cruzan Banana Rum to add an extra tropical twist.
WHERE WAS THE BANANA DAIQUIRI INVENTED?
Though the daiquiri itself was invented in Cuba, the banana daiquiri was invented in 1953 on the island of Saint Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The first person to mix up this now beloved cocktail was a British sea captain by the name of George Soule. You can even take a pilgrimage to the Mountain Top, the location on St. Thomas where this amazing cocktail first came to life.

How do you freeze bananas?
Becky Tarala says
The easiest way is to peel the bananas, cut into 1-inch chunks, then freeze in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Transfer to a freezer bag when completely frozen. 🙂
