Green is Good

I am always looking for ways to entice my family to eat their vegetables. My kids aren’t super picky, but I would say they’re reluctant veggie eaters at best (but aren’t all kids??). Green beans are especially one of those veggies that they skip over. Green beans can be tough, bland, and just blah.

Tough, bland, and blah no more though! Air fryer green bean fries are a HIT in our house. My boys enjoy these so much that they’ll even request them as an after-school snack! You’d better believe that green beans air fryer style are getting made FREQUENTLY in our house these days.

So, whether you’re looking for a quick, healthy snack to munch on or you need the perfect veggie side dish for your next big family dinner, air fryer fried green beans are the way to go

Ingredients for Green Bean Fries

Green Beans – to make these yummy air fryer garlic and parm green bean fries you’ll need about a pound of fresh green beans. You want fresh beans simply because the frozen ones get really soggy and don’t fry up as nicely.

Seasoning – for the seasoning on your green bean fries you’ll need flour, seasoned panko breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.

Eggs – in order to get the coating to stick to your green beans and really crisp them up, you’ll need to give them a simple egg wash.

How to Fry Green Beans in an Air Fryer

STEP ONE: Preheat your air fryer to 390 degrees F. While you’re waiting for the air fryer to heat up, wash the green beans and pat dry. You don’t want any excess liquid or they’ll get soggy! Now you’re going to need 3 shallow bowls for your dredge station. In the first bowl, put the flour. In the second shallow bowl, beat the 2 eggs. And in the third, combine the panko bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, and spices and mix well.

STEP TWO: Set your three bowls up in an assembly line. Start with the flour, then the eggs, then the panko mixture. Now it’s time to get those green beans coated! Add a few green beans to the flour, coat, and shake off any excess. Then move them to the egg. Coat the beans with egg then add them to the panko mixture. Shake off any excess and lay the green beans in an even layer in the air fryer basket. You don’t want the beans overlapping or they won’t fry evenly.

STEP THREE: Pop the basket full ‘o beans into the preheated air fryer and cook for 8 minutes. I would check on them after about 6 minutes, just to be sure they don’t overcook! Serve hot with a little extra parmesan cheese sprinkled on top and some delicious dipping sauce!

What to serve with Air Fryer Green Beans?

These air fryer fried green beans are the perfect tasty treat all on their own. That being said, if you love a good dippings sauce (and who doesn’t love a good dipping sauce??) try out the sauce that I serve with my air fryer bloomin’ onion or some honey sriracha dipping sauce.

I use everything in the bloomin’ onion sauce recipe except the horseradish. I just don’t personally think the horseradish pairs well with the air fryer garlic and parm green beans. It’s my favorite dipping sauce for these green bean fries if I’m not feeling ranch dressing!

How much oil do you put in an air fryer for fries?

While traditional fries (french fries OR green bean fries) are soaked in what seems like gallons of oil, air fryer green bean fries need just a little bit of oil to crisp them up to perfection!

Air fryers are great little tools because you can achieve the same delicious crunch as deep-frying but in a much healthier way! For air fryer french fries, you need about a tablespoon or two of olive oil. But, for air fryer green bean fries, you don’t need any oil at all! The egg wash and coating on the green beans give the air fryer everything it needs to work its magic!

How many carbs are in green bean fries?

Not only are air fryer garlic and parm green bean fries a great way to get in your vegetables, but they’re also actually very low in carbs too! So if you’re on the Keto diet or simply trying to cut back on some carbs this summer, fry up a batch of these.

One serving of air fryer fried green beans only has 15 net carbs – that’s about 3 carbs per bean. Totally a guilt-free snack or side dish!

Instructions

  • Preheat air fryer to 390 degrees F.
  • Set up a dredge station using three shallow bowls. To the first bowl add the flour. To the second bowl, add the eggs and beat them. To the third bowl, add the seasoned panko, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  • First, toss a few dried green beans in the flour. Then dip them into the egg, and then coat in the panko bread crumb mixture. Repeat with the remaining green beans.
  • Place the coated green beans into the basket of the air fryer. (Don't overfill it!)
  • Cook for 8 minutes until tender and the crust is golden. I start checking them after 6 minutes since air fryer heat can vary.
  • Carefully remove from the basket and repeat with the remaining green beans.
  • Serve warm sprinkled with extra Parmesan and your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

I like this sauce for dipping, but without the horseradish.
