Did you know that you can make your own candle with just ordinary citrus and cooking oil? With just two everyday ingredients, you can set a festive glow to any occasion. Best of all, these citrus candles are quick and easy to make.
- Citrus of choice (oranges are a perfect size to burn for several hours)
- Sharp knife
- Vegetable oil
To create the perfect height candle, cut your citrus in half about two-thirds up from the base.
Using a spoon, gently separate the fruit from the rind making sure to preserve the inner stem which will become the wick (see below). The fruit will easily separate from the “wick” as you gently remove the sections.
Fill with vegetable oil, leaving approximately one-fourth of the wick available to burn.
Set your candles on a pretty tray and enjoy them for the evening.
These candles are a natural way to add a festive glow, and I love their subtle scent. But even better is how easy they are to make. If you’re looking to add a special touch to a last-minute party, try a set of orange rind citrus candles. And if you like using natural pieces in your party decor, you might also enjoy my Orange Citrus Luminaries. These luminaries are slightly more decorative than the candles but are every bit as easy to make.
