How long to cook French Toast
When going over medium-high heat it won’t take long; you’ll want to start at about 5-7 minutes each side. Therefore, looking for a golden and crispy fry from your butter and oil combo.
For this toast the best that it can be, it’s essential to get all your ingredients to room temperature so that they coat the bread rather than cold eggs and milk which will slide right off. Once you cover the bread, it can go directly into the pan, or you can let it sit on a plate or tray for a few minutes to let the custard mix soak into the bread and dip it one more time before you put it in the pan. This process will mean that your French toast is a little bit softer than just dipping once.

What is the best bread to use for French Toast?
Yes, this recipe is straightforward; however, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some tips and tricks that can help you bring this breakfast from excellent to spectacular!
- Plain white bread
The best toppings
- Fresh strawberries
- Maple syrup
- Homemade lemon curd
The secret to the best French Toast recipe lies in the cinnamon mixture that the bread is dipped in. It’s a mix of cinnamon (mostly) and some nutmeg for a fragrant and toasty flavor and aroma. I also add some homemade vanilla extract too. Once the spices on the bread hit the heat of the pan, your whole kitchen will smell amazing.
However many times you decide to dip your bread, your family will be thrilled to wake up to this breakfast any morning!
