Ingredients
Potatoes: Large baking potatoes, like Russets, make soft insides and crispy outsides, as well as EASY homemade French fries!
Oil: Extra virgin olive oil makes the fries crispy and helps the seasoning “stick”!
Seasoning: A little salt and the secret ingredient – Old Bay seasoning – give these Maryland Crab Fries their signature taste!
How to Make Crab Fries
STEP ONE: Slice the potatoes into thin strips. Toss them in the olive oil until evenly coated, then spread out in a single layer on a baking sheet. (Parchment-lined if you like.)
STEP TWO: Bake at 425 degrees F for 20-25 minutes, flipping them once about halfway through, until the potatoes are tender and crispy, golden brown on the outside.
STEP THREE: Remove from the oven and immediately toss with the salt and Old Bay seasoning. Enjoy while it’s hot! SO YUMMY!
Tips for Success
- Top these with lump crab, cheese sauce, and a garnish of chives for a super delish casual dinner!
- You CAN use frozen fries, crinkle fries, or waffle-cut fries instead of making these homemade…but the homemade ones are EASY and way better!
- Out of Old Bay seasoning? Substitute salt, pepper, paprika, and dry mustard.
- Russet potatoes have thicker skins and are higher in starch than other potatoes, making them ideal for oven-baked fries!
- Substitute the olive oil for chile oil for a spicy kick!
Can You Make Crispy French Fries in the Oven?
Absolutely! Not only do oven-baked fries get deliciously crispy, but they TASTE better than deep-fried potatoes with about half the calories. To make really good, crispy baked fries, drizzle them with oil and use a two-temperature cooking method: Bake the fries at 350°F for about 20 minutes, then crank the heat up to 425°F and cook another 15 minutes or so until nice and crispy.
What is Old Bay Seasoning?
Old Bay, with its recognizable yellow, red, and blue can, is the name of a McCormick brand seasoning blend readily available at your local grocery store. This seasoning blend is used to flavor shrimp, crab cakes, Cajun recipes, and much more! Old Bay’s signature seasoning contains 18 different spices, including bay leaf, mustard powder, paprika, red pepper, salt, black pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and cardamom.
