Leftover apple pie gets made over into the perfect Fall cocktail with our APPLE PIE BOURBON SMASH!

Last year we hosted Thanksgiving for my husband’s family. As someone who loves to cook – I was really excited to plan the menu and make all kinds of yummy stuff. So when my in-laws offered to bring a dish or two, I graciously declined. Well, it turned out that they brought two pies, in addition to the 3 that I made (I wanted some variety so I made a pumpkin, an apple, and a pecan). Let me tell you 5 pies for 7 people is a LOT of pie.

Ingredients

For the Apple Pie Syrup

  • ½ cup apple pie filling
  • 1 ½ cups water

For the Cocktail

  • ½ cup apple pie syrup
  • 3 oz bourbon
  • 1 ½ oz apple brandy
  • ¼ cup ginger ale or sparkling water optional

Instructions

To make apple pie syrup

  • In a small saucepan combine apple pie filling and water. Heat to a simmer over medium high heat, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and strain through a fine mesh sieve to remove apple pieces. Chill until ready to use.

To make a cocktail:

  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in apple pie syrup, bourbon and apple brandy. Shake until well chilled and strain into two ice filled glasses. Top each glass with ginger ale or sparkling water to fill, if desired. Stir gently to combine.

Notes

If your apple pie has a lot of apples in it (like a homemade pie typically does), you may need to add an additional 1/2 cup of water and 1/4 cup of sugar to make the syrup.
