Hey y’all! I’ve been doing some holiday decorating, trying to keep it low cost and just wanted to share some inspiration with ya.
Do you guys remember the DIY Drip Vase I did a few months back?
Well, while making another one on a different thrift store vase, this is what happened:
The stupid chalk paint cracked and it looked like dump.
Womp-womp.
So, I set it aside and saved it for a future project or unexpected vomit receptacle.
When it came time to start decorating for the holidays, I obviously reached for my vomit vase. Just kidding.
Sort of.
I had some leftover wallpaper from a furniture makeover and thought it would be perfect for some holiday vase action.
I ran a quick spritz of gold spray paint around the lip of the vase, cut it to size and hot glued ‘er down. Boom. This little vase ended up costing me ONE DOLLAR. And! The awesome part about using hot glue instead of craft glue or mod podge is that it can be torn off next year (or for the next holiday) to be re-wrapped in another kind of paper or even fabric. So thrifty!
I picked up some holiday flowers at Joann’s for 5 bucks and then hit the dollar store for some cheap sparkle-y stuff to stick in there.
One of my favorite holiday decorations this year is also the cheapest:
These things. What are these things? I have no idea but they are ALL OVER our yard. I headed out to the yard, weaving in and out of dog-poop-land-mines to get a bucket full. I had some wooden skewers left over from my gold “Give Thanks” Thanksgiving centerpiece so I added a dot of hot glue to the end of each one and shoved them into these… things.
They look like a ball of baby bird beaks. I found a green one in the yard that hadn’t dried out yet and thought that if I cut it open, it might help me figure out what it is. All I know for sure is that it is not creme filled.
Makes a great addition to the arrangement, though! Hello, free decor.
I also used them to decorate our Thanksgiving table along with some (free) pine cones that were out in the yard.
If you’re itching to decorate for the holidays but find yourself in a bit of a pinch, hit the thrift store!
Just this past weekend, I picked up TWO large Christmas wreaths for 2 bucks each! Of course they needed some love, but that two dollar price tag versus anywhere from $15-$30 bucks for a bare wreath at the … wreath store… WIN.
And, keep in mind, gold spray paint will fix all kinds of ugly. If you find a little St. Nick figure at the thrift store, paint it gold. Some old jacked up ornaments? Paint ’em gold. Take a trip down the thrift store toy aisle and find some deer? Paint. Them. Gold!
Holiday decorating doesn’t have to break the bank. Or even put a dent in it.
Be imaginative, be original and best of all, be thrifty!
(and paint it gold.)

Those are sweet gum balls from the sweet gum tree. We have them also.

The seeds or cones you found in your front yard are from the sweet gum tree. We have them in our woods. Thank you for sharing your ideas!
