Delicious Roasted Garlic
Roasted garlic takes anything from “meh” to “amazing,” so taking the time to roast some and add it to rice is the best thing I’ve ever done. Cheesy roasted garlic rice with parmesan is a favorite in my house because no matter what main dish we’re having, we all agree that we need to make this rice as a side, although I sometimes think the kids want it as a main dish too! After roasting the garlic, making this dish takes only a few more minutes than making plain rice, resulting in a dish that tastes incredibly decadent!

Ingredients
Produce: To make this recipe, you will need to roast a head of garlic. Roasted garlic is delicious in so many ways, so I like to roast a couple of cloves since I’m taking the time to make it anyway. You’ll also need fresh parsley for garnish.
Rice: Since you will be preparing the rice according to the directions on the package, you can choose your favorite rice for this recipe: long gain, Basmati, brown, or a colorful blend of rice. Whatever you prefer. I do not recommend using instant rice or microwaveable rice bowls for this recipe.
Pantry Items: This dish also needs chicken broth, salt, and pepper. To make it vegetarian, you can use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth.
Refrigerated items: Set out the butter and heavy cream and grab some shredded parmesan cheese. You can use salted or unsalted butter, whatever you have on hand.
How to Make Cheesy Roasted Garlic Rice
STEP ONE: Stir the rice and broth in a saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Cover the pot, reduce the heat to low, and cook for about 25-30 minutes (or the amount of time listed on the package directions). Remove the pot from the heat and let the rice rest for 5 minutes.
STEP TWO: Chop the roasted garlic and stir it into the rice once the rice. You may need to fluff up the rice a bit first.
STEP THREE: Put the saucepan back on the burner over low heat and add the butter, heavy cream, and parmesan cheese. Continue to stir until the butter and cheese have melted. Next, add salt and pepper to taste and stir to combine.
STEP FOUR: Serve the rice warm with more parmesan cheese and chopped parsley sprinkled on top for garnish.
Tips for Success
- Be sure to follow the cooking instructions on the rice package. Each type of rice cooks a little differently, and following the package directions will give you the best results.
- Roasting garlic takes a bit of time, so plan accordingly. You can start the garlic and cook the rice when it is almost done or roast it beforehand. If you make it beforehand, be sure to pop the cloves of the head out so they’re ready to go.
- You can shred your own parmesan cheese for this recipe or use pre-shredded parmesan. If you buy the pre-shredded stuff, grab it from the fancy cheese section at the store. I’ll melt better than the bagged cheeses in the refrigerated section.
How do I roast garlic?
Roasted garlic has a wonderfully nutty and savory flavor that is perfect in many dishes, so it’s worth knowing how to roast garlic! To start, preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Remove the loose paper skin from the head of garlic but don’t peel the cloves, leave them intact. Cut off the top of the head, exposing the tops of the cloves, and then place it on a sheet of tin foil with the top facing up. Drizzle olive oil over the garlic, seal it in the tin foil, and put it in an oven-safe dish. Roast the garlic for 40-45 minutes until it’s golden brown and soft. Remove the garlic from the oven and allow it to cool. To use, simply squeeze the garlic cloves out of the head or use a small fork and remove each clove.
Is garlic rice good for you?
Adding cooked or roasted garlic to rice dishes is an easy way to add flavor and helpful nutrients! Garlic has some good vitamins and minerals; I think most of us have often heard how great it is for your heart. Adding an ingredient with so much flavor, like garlic, means that you don’t need to add a lot of other flavorings or ingredients, so it can be a great way to keep the calories in a dish low while still enjoying tons of flavor!
