PIZZA HOT DOGS take on a fun flavor featuring pepperoni, sauce, and gooey cheese for the ultimate kid-pleasing meal!
Pizza is one of my all-time favorite foods. We eat it all the time in our house sometimes homemade, sometimes takeout. One of my favorite things to do is to place with fun pizza flavors (Our favorite is this Chicken Alfredo Pizza) but I rarely make pizza flavored things. I’m not really sure why – maybe I am worried it won’t live up to my high pizza expectations? Who knows, but I certainly should do it more often because these Pizza Hot Dogs are really delicious!
When summer rolls around the last thing I want to do is turn on my oven – it’s just too much when it’s over 100 degrees outside! Which means that our meals that involve pizza dwindle down to just a few times during the summer. With grilling in full swing, I thought hey, why not make something else using my favorite pizza toppings that doesn’t have to be made on the grill?!? I am no stranger to making hot dogs into delicious creations (*ahem* these Asian Slaw Dogs with Sriracha Mayo) so I knew these would be the perfect vessel for my pizza creation.
I decided to keep it simple and stick with the pizza staples: cheese, sauce, and pepperoni. Here’s what makes these dogs though – you line the inside of the bun with a few pepperoni. I KNOW. I found that 6 was a good number for me, but if you are pepperoni lover, just pile those suckers on! Add a little sauce and cheese and you have yourself a party (a pizza party!). I also like to add a tiny sprinkle of Italian seasoning to the top for some extra pizza flavor. I have made these using the broiler on my oven, my toaster oven and the grill. Whichever route you chose, be sure to watch those suckers carefully, cheese can go from zero to burnt in just a few seconds if you aren’t looking!
Ingredients
- 4 hot dogs
- 4 buns
- 24 pepperoni
- ¼ cup pizza sauce
- â…“ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ tsp Italian seasoning
Instructions
- Cook hot dogs according to package directions.
- Line the inside of each bun with 6 pepperoni and top each with a hot dog. Spoon 1 tablespoon of sauce onto each hot dog then top with mozzarella cheese and a sprinkle of Italian seasoning.
- Place hot dogs on a baking sheet and broil for 2-3 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly. Alternatively, if hot dogs were grilled, the topped dogs can be placed onto the top shelf of the grill with the lid closed for 3-5 minutes to melt cheese.

Thanks! I’ve tried this in the microwave and just got a soggy mess. The broiler was the answer. For what it’s worth, my dog is spaghetti sauce, olives and mozzarella. Stolen from a local hot dog joint.

These suckers are so super simple and quick to put together, and we LOVED them! To make them a bit healthier I used chicken hot dogs, which I prefer over turkey. I get the ones from Kroger called Simple Truth uncured chicken hot dogs, and since we were lacking something green on our plates, I tossed together a simple Caesar salad. Dinner was on the table in about 10 minutes and didn’t take a lot of effort! Delicious! Thank you so much!
