Now that the holidays are behind us, what to do with all of that left over candy? I for one stuff my kid’s stockings with all sorts of candy, especially candy canes! Trouble is, every year we end up with a surplus of candy canes and never know what to do with them. Since Valentine’s Day is around the corner I thought a great way to repurpose some holiday candy was to make a Candy Cane Chocolate Heart. This is so simple to make, you can get the kids to pitch in! As a mom of boys, I decided to use large blue and red fruity canes and white chocolate, but you can use any combination you like!
My son chose to make one big Candy Cane Heart, but another option is to make several smaller hearts and add them to the class Valentines! We covered ours it in clear wrap, and tied red and white bakers twine around the stem so we can give it to his teacher on Valentine’s Day!
A fun Mommy and Me treat that your kids will love to make (pun totally intended), and share with their friends!
What do you do with your leftover holiday candy?
Ingredients
- White Candy Melts or any type of chocolate
- 2 candy canes per heart
- Lolli Pop stick or paper straw
- Colored sprinkles
- Wax or parchment paper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350º
- Lay the wax paper on a cookie sheet and place the candy canes, 2 at a time facing each other to form a heart
- Place the stick or straw in the center
- Place in the oven for about 3 minutes, remove and carefully pinch the ends of the candy canes together so that they're touching (careful, they're hot!)
- Place chocolate or candy melts in a bowl and microwave on high for a minute, stir to soften
- Gently add the chocolate to the center of the hearts, spreading evenly
- Decorate with sprinkles
- Allow to set completely, then carefully remove it from the wax paper with a spatula
