DIY Stand Mixer Attachments Organizer | Real Housemoms

I was doing some baking recently and was bothered by my lack of organizational skills when comes to the kitchen, particularly my stand mixer attachments. I normally keep them stored in the bowl when they aren’t being used, which is fine, but then I have to take them out to use it like I did just the other day. I think it was when the dough hook rolled off the counter and broke  landed on my toe that I realized things had to change. I need an organizational solution for my stand mixer attachments and I needed it now!

There are a lot things I’d like to change about my kitchen: the formica counter tops, the lack of storage and counter space and the fact that my kitchen is plenty big enough for ample storage but it only has cabinets on one half of it. The kitchen remodel will be a major overhaul and will take plenty of time and probably even more money. With so much left to do with the house that will have to wait a little while longer. So, in the meantime I’m making the best of what I have and trying to figure out the best way to make it all work a little better.

We had just finished up with our office/library makeover and I was putting away our wood scrapes when an idea struck me. What if I put the attachments on a board. Sure it would take up some counter space but not so much that I’d notice. Plus they’d always be handy when I needed them and they’d probably be less likely to fall on my toes. Probably.

I happened to have 25″ of leftover 2×4 which turned out to be absolutely perfect. I laid out each of my attachments on my board to get an idea of spacing. I placed each of the attachments 4″ apart and 2″ from each of the edges.

Then I cut a 1/2″ dowel into five 2″ sections, pre-drilled holes for the dowels at 4″ intervals and 2″ from each edge of the board. Once the dowels were cut I used my rubber mallet to knock them tightly into the wood. You can use wood glue here but it isn’t absolutely necessary. I made sure to sand everything to get rid of any rough edges.

Then I gave it a little test run. I knew the dowel for the bread hook would have to be fairly precise since its opening is shorter than all the others.

Once I was sure that bad boy wasn’t going anywhere it was time to dress things up a bit.

I gave it a coat of my favorite stain, allowed that to dry and then added a food safe hemp oil for added protection.

It may not be my dream kitchen {yet} but we’re getting there!

I hope you find this quick and easy little storage solution helpful. If so, please join me on my blog, Southern Revivals, for more, like this DIY Built-in Jewelry Organizer:
